OEM HID'S NOT WORKING PROPERLY-99 E55 AMG

Hello to everyone!

As a new member I'd like to thank everyone for their help. I've been helped a lot by other members over the years with different cars. Now I have a Mercedes.
I did do a search on this topic but I couldn't really find anyone with this particular problem. That's why I've decided to start a new thread.
My 1999 Mercedes E55 AMG came with OEM HID's. I've noticed that the passenger side one doesn't work with the same intensity as the driver side one. The one on the passenger side is dimmer and yellow in color compared to the driver side which is bright and blue like it should be. When I turn them on after they've been off for a few minutes, they both turn on at the same color and intensity, but after like 5 seconds the one on the passenger side goes to the dimmer yellow as I've described before and stays that way,it doesn't change for the whole duration of usage, when the driver side stays blue and bright. The first thing I did is change the bulb on the passenger side. The old one was a OEM Osram Sylvania D2R,35W. When I took it out I've noticed it had a white foggy spot on it which means that it was going,so I thought that was the problem. I put in a Philips D2R,35W and I believe 85126 on it. But still the same problem. I checked the one on the orher side,it's a Philips D2R,35W,but the number on it is 8K29. Is this different? Could this be the problem?

Could it be the ballast? But there's no flickering,no on and off, which I've read could be signs of a bad ballast.

Found this:
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/gene...b-ballast.html

try switching the bulbs and see if you get the same result, this should point you in the right direction...

Thanks 503C43AMG!
That's really helpfull! I wonder how I didn't find that thread....mmmmmmm....maybe because I'm a newbie...I have an excuse. Haha...
I will do that! I'll go back to the store and get that same exact Philips I put instead of the original Osram Sylvania. Do you think that the rest of the numbers on the bulb should match identical? Like I wrote about the Philips 85126 and the Philips 8K29?

I couldn't find anything on the 8K29 bulb but I did find that the 85126 is the bulb you want to replace the stock bulbs. I would get 2 brand new 85126 bulbs and replace both.

Hey guys!
Thank you so much for all your help!
As I promised I'm back to write the conclusion.
I just bought a pair of Philips HID's D2R 35W 85126 and they finally work like they should,so that fixed the problem.

sometimes its good to change the headlights by the pair . yea there expensive but for some reason the new one doesnt burn the same as old one . Theres also 2 differnt kinds on 85126 and 85126+ .. One doesnt burn upto 5k the other does supposedly after 50-100 hrs of being lit, cant remmeber off top of my head which one is which .. But I purchased a set and only swapped the burnt out one and still I know I've put over 50hrs on the new bulb and it still burns more yellowish then the old one that hasnt been changed out . This is my new one on the right and old one on the left but they are same parts # but if you look closely the right one looks more yellow even next to city light attached and alot more then the one on the left ?? lol dont mind fogs experimenting

Hey MBFLO!
That's how mine used to look before I changed them. But my problem was that I didn't know why?! Lol...
I don't like them like that but I was trying to save a buck. I bought 1 Philips D2R 85126 for 97$!!! And when I saw how they look and found out why I went and spend another 97$ the next day. 200$ for light bulbs is crazy! I really wish my E55 came with regular 11.50$ light bulbs. Lol!
Cheers!

Hey MBFLO!
Thanks! Next time I'll definitely go for the 100$ a set deal! But I guess that won't be for a while(I hope!),because I've read here they're meant to last up to 8 years.
We'll see...
