Battery/Electrical problem

2 days ago, I noticed a small amount of fluid on the garage floor. Thinking it was the tranny taking a leak (do not imagine), a checkup soon followed. Found out the leak was coming from inside my ride and caused by the battery. There was no vent tube so I am now faced with a messy cleanup. After cleanup, I am going to install a tube. My questons are
1. What may have caused this?
2. Are there any precautions that need to be taken?
3. Are there any residual effects of the spilled liquid that I should be aware of?

Thanks.

A sealed battery would be a good idea. It's odd that the battery spilled, though. Do you have proper tie-downs? You shouldn't be able to move the battery much (if at all).

Thanks for the suggestion. Dealer wants $283 for the gel. I am gonna shop around. Hopefully, Interstate will issue a refund as I made the purchase less than 2 weeks ago. The batt was totally secure as I was told the spillage may have been caused by electrical abnormalities.
