My car did something strange.
Today whileI was leaving my local grocery store. I got into my car ,put the key fob in ignition and key wouldent turn.... I took it out and inserted key again and started the car. Then my car shut off almost instantly, All lights turned on the instrument cluster... the same lights that turn on when you turn key 3/4 ...Has anyone else experienced this..Car did start and I drove home...

I've had something similar. About once a month, I'll put my key in, it will turn, but when I turn it all the way to start, there is nothing. Dash lights are on, etc. Pull the key out, put it back in, and it starts just fine. I am suspecting that my fob battery is getting weak.

The computer needs time to read the key. There are many functions that the computer has to check very quickly before starting the car and sometimes you turn the key too fast for it to ' think '. That's why sometimes the car starts and shuts off right away. When this happens the computer registers a key error that doesn't trigger a check engine light,but if you read the error codes using a Mercedes tool and Star software you will see the key error and will be able to reset it.
That's why I recommend putting the key in the ignition,turning it a quarter of the way until your SRS light comes on,wait a couple of seconds until it goes off and then start it.

EIS PROBLEM
I went through the same thing put key in ignition it turns, dash comes on but no pre ignition lights just km, stereo works, headlights, interior lights, I took rear Sam out had it checked then took ignition to a shop in Toronto Canada and for $250 they rebuild it no need to reprogram key this form is awesome thanks to everyone who posts saved me $1300
