Driveshaft

Recently, Had my car on the lift and noticed my driveshaft has a little play. I think its the cause to my clanking sound I hear on take off. Is this normal. My driveshaft support and bearings are fairly new. The black rubber bushing with the bolts connecting driveshaft is also not worn.

Is the clanking coming from the center of the car (under the arm rest)?

I had a similar knocking sound at takeoff and it turned out to be the center support bearing. The "black rubber bushing" is called a flex disc and I do not believe it would cause a "clanking sound", if there are cracks in the flex discs you need to replace them.

I know you said your center support bearing was fairly new but from your description of the sound I would suggest starting there.

Have you checked the u-joints? They'd allow some play and could clank if they're bad.

It shouldn't have any play. Either that or the part is defective (check for warranty on the part) OEM?
