I think I broke my car
Well, I did something rather stupid this weekend - I turned off my traction control, and then did a wide open throttle launch from a dead stop... figured I'd roast the tires for the first time in my ownership of the car.
This didn't quite go according to plan - I roasted the tires, had some major axle hop as well and I abandoned the attempt at around 60 MPH. I continued on the road a bit, and came to a stop.... light went green, I got on the gas... and heard a THUD noise - from the rear.
That was disconcerting... to say the least. The car makes a "thunk" from the rear every time I get on the gas - and it is especially pronounced when going from Drive to Reverse. I'm pretty sure one of the motor mounts is gone (I get about 4 inches of lift on the driver's side of the engine, when I give it gas with the brake on - negligible lift in Reverse on the passenger side - so I know the driver's side mount is definitely shot...
HOWEVER... when doing this test to ascertain the health of my broken motor mounts, I heard a metallic CRUNCH noise from the rear of the car... Have I broken my differential mount? Driveshaft? something? Any ideas?
The car is bone stock - no modifications whatsoever, stock wheels, etc - with 87,000 miles on it.
Thanks in advance for any insight you might be able to offer...

Don't drive it. It sounds like something let go and you'll just do more damage.
I wouldn't be surprised if something in the rear end let go. Back when I had my '98 Z28 I blew up the rear in it. It made a loud thunk noise and then it would clank anytime the car moved. It's not a cheap fix either.

It's the motor mounts, they're totally blown out.
He took it to the indy my friend works at and that's what his boss told me when I was there Friday dropping a rear end off for my Durango.

I had the same issue with my car. I blew out the driver side mount but could swear there was a noise in back too. I changed the mounts and all is well.
Changing the mounts was an easy job - the worst part was the dang sheetmetal heat shields on the top sides the mounts and getting them into position.
