oil sensor defective

I was driving today and the oil sensor defective message showed up on my 1995 e55.

I never saw this one before. I looked up the sensor and it is about $110 .

Can I install it myself and is there the possibility of any damage to the engine if I drive with the messagefor the moment.

I assume the sensor tell the console when oil gets low.

Any help would be appreicated

Are you sure the oil level is correct? you check by the dipstick? if the oil level is 100% correct you have not any possibility to damage the engine. Change the sensor.. But is not common a failing sensor in this car (just for oil leak) but no incorrect read. Jut check the oil level first mate

95 E55? not possible

To change the oil level sending unit you will need to drop the oil pan out and then reseal it using sealant, there's no gasket there. Best to leave it overnight or at least a few good hours before putting oil back in.
Like Fabio said, make sure you have enough oil using the engine dipstick and you should be fine driving it.
