Vibration

So, I had the typical vibration I have been reading about on my 2002 E55 AMG. When I first bought it, it was terrible. I then put new Michelin Super Sports on it, had them balanced, and had them balanced again to be absolutely sure. The vibration was diminished by 80%. By doing this I beLieve ive narrowed it down to anything else right? I've read flex discs, drive shafts, prop shafts, joints, tranny mounts, etc. all I know is it cant be an engine mount since the vibration is present only when driving about 45-50 mph, and then again above 90 mph. Never Notice it slower than 45ish mph. It's not all that bad, but noticeable. It can be felt throughout the entire car, and I can't honestly say its front or rear, left or right. So?
Would like to be rid of it, and as stated, it's way better now. Certainly not as bad as what I have been reading with others. Would like your input.
Gary

Oh, and had the rear rotors turned. Car has 104,000.
And one more thing.....replaced all 4 shocks with new Bilsteins. K, im done editing.

Mine does the same thing - mine starts about 78-80, it's really bad by 90.

I'm suspecting driveshaft, though I'm not sure how I'd be able to check.

Check the tie-rods. I change both tie-rods and the 70-80mph vibration were gone. Also, front end alignment helps.

I'll look into this too. I guess after further review of what I've done so far, seems like if I turned the rear rotors and it got better, maybe the problem is in the rear?

Does the rear bearing make any noise?
I changed my driver's side rear bearing last year.

Nope, all is quiet on the back end. I am really leaning towards the drive train. Heard of a local Indy shop that has a really good reputation, I may have to swing in there and have them take a look at it. I think the transmission fluid may need changing anyway, shifting rather oddly at times.

This^ plus anything over 100k should have the flex disk replaced. I also have this issue and there a bunch of write up's on this particular issue. The problem is when the car sits say overnight you will feel the vibration more as the flex disk (rubber) is cold and heats up causing some of the vibration to disappear. The flex disc tend to get hard causing the shaft to vibrate. While your in there also replace transmission mount - this piece needs to be removed to have access to the front front flex disk. (flex disc, transmission mount purchased on autohaus )

I'm also replacing my lower control arms/upper control arms/sway bar links as well. I plan on dropping her off next week.

Really good pricing on lower control arms

Hi Semba,

Any progress on tracking down the cause of your issue? Looks like it's not the driveshaft or wheel balancing on mine (vibration getting worse from 75mph upwards), and a decent local indy shop confirmed that the suspension is all good.

Thanks!

Vibration fixed!

It's fixed! Changed motor and transmission mounts, and balanced and rotated the front wheels. Considering I'd already performed the rotation and balancing once before, I'm convinced that the mounts were the problem.

It was shaking at 75mph plus. I'm so happy that it's fixed. Hope this is of use to anyone else who maybe searching.

Mine 65-75mph vibration was fixed with changing the front tie rods and tire and wheel alignment. I think every vibration could have been due to a number of things mention in this forum.
