cracked AMS headers revisited

Some of you may remember my previous post last year about my AMS headers being cracked a year after installation. I got them rewelded and the flange flattened and put about 8,000 miles on the car since I had them reinstalled. I've noticed in the past few weeks that I have an exhaust leak when I start it up in the morning. I poked around under the hood yesterday and I'm pretty sure my passenger header has cracked again! At this point I'm sure its a design flaw or improper materials were used.

I hate to hear this as well. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to have gone through all of this with your headers.

With me running basically a copy of the AMS headers I will be keeping a close ear and eye on mine.

What are you going to do next?

I would bet that doing a ceramic coating inside and out would help with the cracking. Stainless tends to crack when it is heat cycled many times.

I hope it helps. Flattening the flanges from the beginning may help as well.

That sucks. Can you describe where the weld cracked and had to reweld?

Well, mine is going on a year and 8 months now. Hopefully nothing happens to them. I drove my car three days a week to work...knock on wood. Ceramic coating might help.
