Has anyone found a replacement for the door mirror gaskets?
2000-2002 facelift cars?


I was thinking of trying to fit this reproduction gasket for the 1995-1999 pre-face lift cars:

Mate, i found this seal gaskets in ebay like a year ago +/- (aftermarket) but never seen this again (alone) cause this seals are not sold separatly (OEM), they comes with all the mirror asembly :S

I have been looking for a while. Hopefully the ones that you found, are still available some where.
I might just have to try the ones in the link. Maybe I can modify them to work with face lift car.

I read the link and have e-mailed the guy selling the W211 gaskets. Here is his reply:
"Dear cudaized,

Hi! Thanks for the inquiry. We are not currently looking to get into any W210 gaskets reproduction."



Making one is still an option. My driver's side has broken away and the wind noise is noticeable.

I can see the Florida sun really cause the gasket to dry out. You really can't win....up here, we have the salt that eats up the bottom of cars every winter (especially this winter) but the south, you have the high temp and humidity that cracks rubber/plastic parts.....

 

Mine look about the same. It seems dumb for someone not to have these.

 

I found a source for reproduction door mirror gasket/seals. I ordered a set.
Once they arrive from over seas, I will make a comparison post. Hopefully I have found something good for all of us 2000-02 W210 owners.

Parts are here. They look nice. I will compare them to my originals early next week.

 

Today I installed the new gaskets/seals. I am very satisfied. They fit and look fantastic. I recommend them.

The gaskets are very close in appearance to the originals. You will not see the differences once the gaskets/seals are installed.

Drive 1
Pictures of my original gaskets/seals. They are dry rotting. Having spent its life in (dry climate) Arizona and the last 4 years in Miami, Florida.
Driver's side top, front, and rear had broken off. I was getting noticeable wind noise when I was driving.
I did not indicate how to remove the housing cover. You can search for that, or just ask.
Picture 4 shows the new gasket/seal.
Easy to remove the black and white electric plugs.

 

Drive 2
More pictures of the old gasket.
The last picture shows the old gasket next to the new one.
Note: There are slight differences.
The middle hole, the one recessed for the wire harness, is not punched out nor a molded nipple.
The lower molded hole for the wire harness screw is in the wrong location. Both items are not a big deal. I cut the old gasket with a razor blade to gently remove the wire harness. (see the passenger side pictures)
Follow along to see my solution....

 

Drive 3
The first 3 pictures are comparing old and new gaskets.
The 4th picture indicates where the wire harness screw should be located. I just cut an X with a razor blade large enough for a small screw to be pushed through. The larger defined oval shape is where I cut a larger X for the wire harness to be pushed through. Be sure to push it through from the correct side.
Pictures 5 and 6 as you can see, I gently pushed the wire harness through.

 

Drive 4
You can see the wire harness. I used some black automotive gasket sealer for the newly cut holes. The unused molded wire harness screw area was sealed with gasket sealer also. Just incase of rogue water trying to find it's way in.

 

Drive 5
A little sealer goes a long way. Do not over squeeze. Just a little to seal the holes.
Reconnect the wire harness to the body. Install the three screws.
Don't forget to reset the metal spring that holds the cover on. (Just pry it out - forward- a little)
I had the blinker on and gently slid the outer cover back onto the mirror housing. It seats itself and locks back onto that metal spring clip that you just reset.
I have the blinker on so I can see that the turn signal does indeed work after I reseat the cover.
The last few pictures show the new gasket/seal installed. Very nice.
The whole job took about 15 minutes for this side.


Now onto the passenger side.....

 

Pass 1
Not as dry rotted as the driver's side, but well on it's way.
Unplug the two wire harnesses.

 

Pass 2
Take note where the wire harness goes through and also where the wire harness screw goes.

 

Pass 3
I cut the old gasket/seal to pull the wire harness out.
Picture 6 shows the old and new gasket/seal next to each other.

 

Pass 4
Good comparison pictures of the old vs. new. I think they are a fantastic product. The outside shapes and size is almost identical.
Last picture shows the gasket sealer installed in the unused wire harness screw hole.

 

Pass 5
Picture 1 shows the gasket sealer. Just a little.

 

Pass 6
All finished. An easy do-it-yourself job. Start to finish I have 35 minutes invested in changing both sides, including tools put away and clean up.
(I recommend having the blinker on so you can make sure the light works when you reinstall the housing cover.)
