Engine Mounts
Engine Mounts
Hi Guys,
I'm sure many of you are already aware of this but I did want to post as it might help someone out. I recently acquired a '99 E55 w/ 79k that was idling rough and had the occasional surge and felt like it was very slouchy at times. After looking over the records I noticed the dealership stated the mounts were leaking around 68k so I went ahead and replaced them. I was gobsmacked at the difference these new mounts made! The car is so smooth now and definitely runs like an MB should. You must be careful when they are bad because if you floor it the engine can definitely hit the hood causing dents or something potentially worse. The video below pretty much sums it up, it's well worth replacing them! There are a few ways to test the mounts, but I feel the best way is to have someone put the car in D with their foot on the brake then have them hit the gas and watch the engine dance around in the bay, if so you need new mounts. I hope this helps!
