Data Link Connector for 1999 E55 AMG
Hey, all. Had some issues the other day, and figured I would scan to see if there were any codes present. However, when I went to hook up the scanner, I found I could not use an OBDll. Instead of the regular 16 pin DLC, I have a 39 pin round DLC under the hood. Does anyone know if there is an adapter available and even if I found one, will an OBDll system work on a Japanese diagnostic system. I have a call in to the dealership, but no word back yet. Thanks for any help on this.

You have both. The OBD-2 connector is under the dash and over your left knee.
My '99 is a Canadian spec so yours should have the same connector. If your car is a Japanese spec, all bets are off and you will need to locate the Star Diagnosis Assistance System. Much more expensive.

My E is a Japan spec car, but I had a look under the dash just in case. I took the trim off and pulled the cover down, nothing. Kind of surprised at the lack of wiring and clutter usually found in North American vehicles. Not much in there. Back on topic: no dealership here, so not sure where I will find someone to scan this. The indies I've spoken with are sympathetic, but that's as far as they can go. As of this a.m., the CEL hasn't showed up, so maybe it fixed itself. Car seems to be doing ok now.

You need a 38 pin adapter to connect to the underhood connector in the fuse box.
I'm using an Autel MD802 with 38-pin adapter, works great on my car.
