'99 E55 AMG Engine Noise, Power Loss
Hey guys. I just picked up a '99 E55 AMG with only 63k on the clock. It's been rode hard and put away wet though...salvage title, lots of cosmetic issues. It's my second W210 E55, third W210 overall.
The engine in this car has a very distinct tick noise than changes in intensity depending on the engine temperature and RPM. It's hard to start, shudders, belches blue smoke when it's cold. It definitely has less power than my other E55 with 130k, but it will still spin the tires.
I've been told that this could just be an oil problem. There is definitely conventional oil in the engine right now...I can smell it. I was thinking of doing a motor flush and putting in some fresh synthetic. What do you guys think? Am I dreaming to think this will fix the engine issues?
I thought I'd do a compression test too, but I wanted to hear some opinions first so I'm not out there wasting my time.

It's definitely burning oil. It's sat for a long time. Blue smoke goes away once it's run for a minute...classic valve seal leak problem.
One thing I noticed today was that it feels like the engine has a dead miss, but there's no check engine light. I'm worried I have a flat lobe on a cam or something else.
Does anyone here have experience inside this engine? Do I need to post this in another section?

It doesn't have a check engine light. I'll plug in my reader and see what it says. I have a feeling it won't have anything though. When I bought it the battery was completely dead.
