Replacing motor mounts
I have replaced engine mounts on a 1999 C 230 Kompressor without too much trouble. I now have a 2001 E55 AMG and need to replace them. I have been told that it is more complicated (mostly because the engine compartment is so crowded). I was also told I may have to remove the exhaust in order to get to the mounts. Any advice? Can I do it at home, with just jack stands and no hoist? Any other problems for DIY?

I did mine on jackstands, I didn't find it that bad to be honest. Used a block of wood on a jack to support the engine from the oilpan while working, took about an hour once the car was up in the air and the bellypan was removed. I went with the W211 spec motor mounts as they're supposed to be stiffer, didn't notice any real difference, but my old mounts had lost their liquid guts when I removed them.

It's one of the easiest cars to do. There is nothing you need to remove aside from the motor mounts themselves and the headlight level sensor lever on the passenger side. Do remember to disconnect the battery before starting.
