Uh-oh... what's this noise?
This is my '99 E55, it has around 160K on it. It's ben sitting since the weekend, went to start it this morning (first cold morning of the year) and...
It's not smoking, oil level was at the lower end of the acceptable range (it's just about due for a change), I've always used Mobil 1.
Initially I was fearful of some catastrophic bottom end failure (which is what I had when I started it up), but now I'm thinking stuck lifter, or some valve lubrication failure. No error codes are thrown and it isn't misfiring.
Any thoughts appreciated, especially whether it's ok to drive 4 miles or so to the local MB specialist.
Thanks!

Quick follow up, as promised.
Changed the oil, and added Rislone engine treatment (one bottle per 5 qts. oil). Took it for a drive. After a 2-3 miles, it was back to normal (no ticking).
Also quiet when starting from cold.
Suspect I may need some valvetrain maintenance down the line, but happy that my engine is not toast!

Mine did the same thing once (147k miles at the time) during one summer morning after it sat for 2 weeks. Changed from the normal 0-40 to 10-40 and never had the noise reoccur under any temp or time duration. Oil recommendation came from my friend who is the service manager at WI Simonson.
