Removing center dash panel

I would like to install a USB charging port in-place of the cigar lighter socket in the ash tray area in the center console stack of my 2001 E-55. I am looking for instructions on how to remove the center console.

you should not have to remove the whole console. If you remove the ashtray it should give you easy access to the cig lighter and the wires that run to it.

Unfortunately the ashtray itself is missing. I don't see how to release the lighter socket and prefer not to break the plastic if possible.

My goal is to make mods that make no permanent changes to the car.
