E55 suspension
Guys:
Need some info about E55 AMG suspension components (shocks, sway bars, springs).
Are all years ('99-'02) E55 suspension parts the same? Is there any difference in fitment, size, etc. in the different years?
Will a shock from a '99 fit a 2000?
Are the sway bars all the same size (29mm front, 20mm rear)?
Are the E55 sway bars solid as opposed to hollow?
I bought a used "E55" suspension off eBay at a super price, but am finding that the sway bars appear to be stock E430 units. The Bilstein shocks are stamped AMG and have E55 stickers on them, but they are off a '99 E55-I have a 2000 E430. The springs appear to be OK.
Any info. is greatly appreciated! THANKS

To be sure, I would check with your local dealer. You should be able to determine the diameter of the sway bars with a ruler. If they are as posted, then yes, they are 55 sway bars. If not... The shocks are Bilstein HD shocks, and should have a MB part number located on them, which can easily lead to an answer from the dealer.

Ben,
Thanks for your reply. I measured the diameter of the "E55" sway bars and they measured exactly the same as my E430. The guy I bought them from admitted that he might have mistakenly sold me his old 430 bars. Am in negotiations with him for a credit.
However, the shocks are definitely off an E55, just wonder if they will fit ALL E-class (210) cars. Guess I will find out when I try to get them installed.
By the way, how do you like the Eibach sway bars? They fit OK?
I note that Eibach lists an application for a 2000 E320, but no E430. Trying to find out if they will fit my car.
Mike

To Mikey E430:
Here are the part numbers of the E55 Euro AMG suspension
A2103213204 Frnt spngs
A2103243804 Rear "
A2103235565 Front anti roll
HWA2103260165 Rear ""
A2103234100 Front shocks
A2103262300 Rear "
The front and rear springs are the only differences between the US and Euro (and rest of the world). The sway bars and shocks, I believe has the same part numbers.
I only replaced the US springs with the Euro springs on my E55.
Hope this help.

MikeyE430,
All suspension parts for the U.S. E55's are the same for all years. The suspension part numers are the same for 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002 E55. Good Luck

E55 Shox
OK, guys see if you can solve this one:
The part numbers I got off the AMG Bilstein shocks are:
210 323 5600 (fronts, I think)
210 326 2300
The number you gave me for fronts were 210 323 4100
What is the difference? Will check with my dealer parts guy.

Update
Thanks to all who helped me with the suspension part numbers, etc. Wanted to update:
E55 shocks installed on E430 Sport. A little firmer around town, no interstate driving yet. Fit great.
I have like new set of E55 AMG springs for sale on Ebay.
I also have a set of front and rear sway bars from an E430 for sale.

MikeyE430, maybe you should try the E55 springs. Here is what Luke@TireRack says about adding Eibach to E55:

E55 springs
Kevin,
I already have Eibach springs on my E430. That is why I do not need the E55 springs that I bought. Also, why I am letting them go so cheap on eBay. List on them is $340 from dealer (set of 4). Street price new $270-300.
I figure someone with an E320, E420, E430 (W210) could use these springs to lower and firm up their car without spending a lot of money. The E55 springs are definitely shorter/firmer than stock 320/430.

MikeyE430, if what Luke says is true then the AMG springs may be better/shorter than the Eibach. The Eibach springs are an upgrade to E320/E420/E430 springs and not an upgrade or improvement over the E55 springs.

The AMG springs....
are not the best way to go. The euro AMG springs are better than the US, but still too soft. US springs are ponderous (rate is not high enough), marshmallowy, and way too high IMHO. The US shocks, are WAY too soft for me, Euro is better, but Bilstein or Koni seems to be the way. I have a couple of customers with H/R koni setup, and their cars drive light years better than the US OE setup. Hope this helps.
