w210 E55 AMG Vs. W211 E550
I am curious how these 2 cars compare. I've only driven a W211 E550 one time for about 20 minutes. I remember it was fast and the suspension was solid...just like my W210 E55. I know the W211 is rated higher horsepower, 379 I think, and the torque is the same at 391 ft pounds.
What is it about the W211 that gives it more horsepower? I am surprised that the AMG folks didn't get more than 349hp out of the W210 engine. Is the e550 faster than the AMG?
It seems like the days of big displacement German engines are numbered.

The e550 is faster than the W210 E55 for sure. Double overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder are some of the changes that gave it more output. If you ever get a chance to drive a CLK550, its incredible how quick it is because of the lighter body. The M113 engine is an old design from the 90s. The 550 engines are a whole new generation.

If i'm not mistaken; "W210 E55 & W211 E550" are almost the same,,
*98-02 "W210 E55", (M113), "0 to 60" is (5.4)
*05-09 "W211 E550", (M273), "0 to 60" is (5.3)

Good info....I wasn't sure what the difference in the engines/heads was. Both are great v-8's. The w211 and w212 with the NA 550 were both on my radar before I bought my E55. For the difference in cost to buy and the cost of maintenance, the E55 was a no-brainer. The w212 (2010-2011) is really nice, but seems like there are too many costly things to wrong...and I try to DIY as much as possible.
