HELPPPP!!! Changing Oil for W210 E55
I always change the oil of all of my cars, except my E55, myself as it's very easy to do and I could do whenever I want.
Since my E55's warranty expired already, I think I want to try changing its oil myself... however, I don't even know how to open the AMG cover under the hood and haven't looked where the drain plug is. (Never did anything under the hood myself.... always let my mechanic do the job :p)
So... anyone who knows how to change oil with their W210 E55, please kindly share the knowledge with me.
But first of all, I have to ask couple stupid questions:
1. Do you think it's easy (like with Japanese cars) and a good idea to change the oil myself?
2. Is the oil filter the one at the lower left corner (if I stand in front of the car and face the car)? Is it the only one?
3. How to open the AMG cover? I believe that's where the air filter is, right?
4. How many U.S. quarts should I use?
5. Can I use aftermarket oil filter? If so, what's the best brand? I usually use Castrol or Fram for my other cars. If not, do you know MB Part number for the oil filter?
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!

2002 MB E55 AMG
Zoink - Assuming the '01 airbox is the same as '02, as I recall you loosen the intake connections at the front and just lift it up and off - has clips that attach it to the engine. Then you need Torx drivers to take the airbox apart to change the filters.
Do you know what a Topsider is? For changing oil from above.

2002 E55, Brilliant Silver/Charcoal and Grey, All option except Parktronic.
I am pretty sure the oil filter is at the top right side of the engine housed in a black canister. My understanding is that they tend to be tight and require a wrench to remove. I believe the process should be easy enough. The engine holds about 8 quarts but I would verify with the owners manual.
The AMG shroud just snaps off. I have heard that one needs to be careful to ensure that it snaps back on correctly or you will suck unfiltered air.
Hope it helps. Verify everything, that is an expensive engine.

Yes, I know topsider..... I'm watching the 12V one.... but it looks like I'd better get the manual instead of mechanic one as the battery is under the rear seat, right?
BTW, I've heard some people suggesting to warm up the oil first to make sure more dirt got sucked....
So I guess, everything seems easy to do.... just like japanese cars.....

9 quarts needed - even on E320 V6 and E430 V8. Oil filter is on top. There are no aftermarket oil filters that I am aware of.
