Opinions needed on e55 purchase

might get back into another e55 need opinions or thoughts

160k miles
owned by older gentleman last 10 years. No rust at all, new tires, always been serviced by local Mercedes dealer with up to date service

Couple issues he reported

pinion seal leaking rear end which he has a small stain in his garage. He said that Benz mechanic said rear end would need to come out to replace which to him was not worth it.

car has a clear bra was probably put on when new which is all cracked up. He never tried to take off because one place said it would ruin the paint if they try which I’m not sure if that is true.

Instrument cluster some of the pixels out and he said one bulb is out

new tires and shocks rebuilt by Mercedes.

2 wheels clear coat needs to be refinished.

think it’s worth it? What are everyone thoughts about this and does the rearend need to be taken down to replace pinion seal? How much would it cost?

he said he would sell it to me for 5k.is it worth 5k? All maintenance up to date, no rust and interior mint.

Pictures of clear bra. Little nervous about taking it out without hurting the paint

worth every penny of $5k IMO. Definitely get that clear bra off but may need a respray or even a wrap?

Cheap at $5K. Heck, I paid almost $7K for mine and then had to put around $2K in body work and paint into it.

If the clear bra screws up the paint that would be the most expensive fix. Light bulb in instrument cluster is a 10-minute job and less than a dollar. Pixels I would prefer a repair shop specializing in it; costs ~$150 and plan on shipping there and back another $50. As far as the seal in the rear differential, get a second opinion. FWIW, multiple members discuss dropping the differential when they are installing LSD; worst case, a few hours of your time and take the differential to a shop for replacement of the seal. Heck, when you get that far you might as well just do it yourself.

W210 E55s are getting more difficult to find. Classic car with great lines.
