My 2000 w210 e55 vs 2003 sl500
Well first of all im writing this thread cause im a little tired of reading threads of the new M5 vs E55, so here it goes, it was a sunday afternoon had taken the family out to eat in Tampa, FL on the way back home i stopped in a red light and to my surprise there was this silver sl500 with 2 guys (mid 30's) looking a my car (my car is stock, no scratches with 32k miles on it and that AMG badge brings attention) so im thinking i have my wife and 2 kids no way im doing this, so the light turns green and he speeds off just to be caught by the next red light (by then my blood is pumping cause i didnt buy an AMG just to show off its looks) so I tell my wife that im going to just play a little, she says its ok as long as i be carefull 
so i looked at the guy againg and he gives me the nod and as soon as the light turns green we both step on it and to my surprise he has 1/2 cl on me (must behave been i have more people in my car than he does) but when i hit 100 mph i noticed i just kept creeping up on him to beat him by 1/2 cl, when we reached the next light he saluted me and said thanks for the little race. I hope people would post more adventures that they encounter with their AMG's.

I had a W210 '02 E55 and noticed that only certain type of people noticed the car. With the W211 and the quad pipes, the limo tinted windows, etc I've had more races in the past month than I ever had with the old E55. I have yet to lose on the street against these random cars... when I'm with my car group though, it's a different story... I'm at the bottom of the totem pole

2000 W210 E55->2003 R230 SL500->2004 W211 E55->2007 997TT+2007 E63->2010 GLK350->2012 E550 4matic
I personally find the W210 and W211 AMGs much more fun than the R230 SL500 I had.
I think if you had a better launch, the W210 should be much faster than the SL500. While the SL500 handles quite well with the low center of gravity and little body roll, the W210 E55 I had was significantly faster.
The W211 E55 on the other hand, is easier to launch when you have 4 passengers with the added weight/traction!
