W210 ECU question

Does anyone know if it is possible to swap ECU's between cars? If it is possible, what are the potential pitfalls if any? I have access to a Renntech ECU (in a 2000) from another car to swap with mine (2001). Any input would be appreciated.

The ECU (AKA) M.E. control unit, is locked to the vehicle originally installed in after 40 ignition starts. If the control unit is "married" to the original vehicle, it will not allow the next vehicle to start after installed. Just part of the anti-theft features from MB.
