Hi guys,

Im interested in buying a used 2001 E55 ... it has about 35k miles and the seller is asking $37K for it.

Since the car is not under warranty and does not have the CPO,
Im just wondering what kind of maintenance do you guys
do on the car?
Other than the regular oil change intervals, is there any problems
that any of you have faced?

And comparing this to a 2001 S430, same miles, which one would have
less problems?
And after 2-3 years, which one do you think will have a better resale value?

my guess is that the amg would have better resale and less problems than the s430

I've had very few problems with my '01 E55. It's actually been a very reliable car and still rock solid with 62k miles on it. If the '01 is in perfect condition then $37k sounds about right. My local dealer was going to give me $33k on trade for a nearly new '04 at $3k off MSRP. This was actually a pretty decent deal after I got over the shock of my car being worth less than half of what I paid for it three years ago. I passed on the '04 and will keep mine until the w212 platform E60? AMG comes out and then take another look. I think the w210 E55 is a pretty amazing value considering the caliber of car it is. I'd go for it over the S class for sure. Once you've experienced an AMG it'd hard to go back to the standard MB platform cars (at least it is for me).

I would say you could expect similar problems. As far as resale the AMG would definitely hold up better. Maintenance other then the A and B services is oil changes. I usually change my oil every 5,000 miles or about once a year. Hope this helps.
