AMG balance & blueprint
That is, what is the chance that the balance might be thrown off by a replacement lifter that weighs more or less than the lifter it replaces?
If the dealership replaced the lifters, do I need to insist that they send the parts off to be rebalanced? Or am I being paranoid?

Balanced engine means that the piston, ring, connecting rod of every cylinder are within a certain range of weight to each other. The closer the tolerance, the more balanced the engine. The crankshaft might also get a balancing treatment or blueprinting to the extent of sharpening the part which hit the oil when engine is turning (to reduce drag mainly).
Replacing the camshaft with another AMG cam should and will not alter the balance of the engine, neither would replacing the hydraulic valve lifters!!!!!
