W210 E55 n00b :)

Well it seems like I may be getting a 2000 E55 ///AMG Awww yyeeaahh! So my questions for you current owners: What is there to know about it maintenance wise?

Does it have the same dreaded harmonic balancer as found on the V6 and V8? Anything that I should watch out for?

The car has 80k miles. Somewhat high, but hey, that's all I can afford. I'm not made out of money

Most likely I'll do all fluids as soon as I get it. Should I do plugs?

Please advise

Can't wait to get some money to HPS it up!

Also, in case this deal falls through, I may go for a '99, though updating it might prove to be more costly than getting a '00+ Other than the cosmetic updates, is there any major or even minor differences between a '99 and 00+ ?

Thanks!

The 2000+ also have radio and computer controls on the steering wheel. Also the 2000+ have tiptronic. The outside difference are hood, lights, bumbers, side skirts, mirrors and grill. The motor, tranny, wheels, suspension and everthing else is the same.

I'm very happy with my 99, I get many complements and people are very surprised it is a 99. The only thing I would like is the 2000+ front bumber. When I was first looking at E55's I wanted a 2000 but the 99 was 10k less.
What ever way you go, you can't go wrong with an E55.

I'm aware of the differences ibetween the two, I wanted to be sure that the engine was the same. Good stuff. I guess if I end up w/ the '99 I'll do a Wald kit again Otherwise, '00 is better though... I'll need HR/Bilstein, tint, some ICE, Iforged wheels or HRE if I feel richer...or maybe OZ.., then some BBK and call it a day. Well before I HPS it up

Tired of Movens? :p If you're interested in some brakes let me know. Thinking about selling mine front and rears.

Since you seem to have a merc already, may be you know that you should check all electronics (seat adjuster, power windows, etc.) including instrument clusters..... I personally don't like MB electronics (even though better than bimmer).

I would worry less about the engine as long as you know the previous owner never abuses it and maintains it properly.

Good luck and enjoy!!!

'06 E55, '05 SLK55, a few others
Get the trans serviced before you're committed to buying it unless you're sure it's already been done. 100K stuff is all B.S. Do that every 30K and keep Mobile 1 in the motor, you're good. Other than that, the usual 210 things. Last but not least, be careful. These things can bite, 'specially with a few PSI of boost.
