Traded my S500 for an E55 today!
I've been watching the e55 boards for a while...you guys have been a huge influence on me getting a new E55. I'm a horsepower junkie...I've had several 11-12 second street cars along with a 199hp at the rear wheel Hayabusa...the busa ran a 9.56 at 149mph. I had a turbo t/a that ran 12.43 stock...and a rustang that ran an 11.16 at 123mph.
My S500 was a 2001...it was a great car...ran a 14.05 at 98 mph!
Today I bought a 2005 black on black E55. It's not as roomy as the S but the car is silly fast!!!!
Any suggestions on breaking the car in?? I've always thought "the harder you break them in, the harder they run."
I was going to post a picture of both cars at the dealership but I can't figure it out...can anyone help??
Thanks!

I agree. I have always run my cars hard right out of the box. Break it in the way you're going to drive it! I might have a lot of guys disagree with me here and will soon find out how it effected my car. I just clicked over 1k miles and I don't think I have any tread left on the rear tires. Oh well, I bought this car to be a fun every day car. So far it has been just that.

You think you have it tough?
I took delivery of an E55 in Germany at the factory last May. They told me not to drive any faster than 85 mph. On the German Autobahn. Yea, right.

good man, the s is a boat but the e is the perfect 4 door racer. pm me and ill hit you back with my email and you can email the pics and ill put em up! let the mods begin! but, if it were my car there is a honing process that goes on from a new factory car to polish the cyl liners that i adhere to at least b/c i keep my cars for a while. sort of like if you built an old school rod you'd gently get into it to make sure its all good.

Congratulations and welcome to the E55 "The Beast" club. While you are patiently breaking in your new car, you will have time to think about your first mods. Have fun.

thanks for posting the pic peter!
thanks to everyone for for the kind words!
I've already got a pulley on order.
plan on running it at the track in stock trim the next couple of weeks.
btw...will the car get faster when it gets broke-in??...if so, about how many miles before i can feel a difference?? the car has 96 miles on it today and won't spin the tires.
also...is there a good launch method from a dead stop...i tried flat footing it and the car seems to hesitate for a second??
thanks,
john

I try to hit the accelerate easy until revs come up to 2500 and then push it to the floor....boom! Supposedly, it is better to launch it in comfort mode and lower psi if you drag it on a strip.

With supercharged/turbocharged cars,*always* follow manufacturers' procedure.
i.e., read the manual, and do exactly what they say. Remember: with the supercharger, you're forcing a lot more air than normal into those cylinders, and you definitely want them to seat and seal properly!! Proper break in is important for all cars, but is particularly important for cars with forced induction.
Here's why proper break in is vital:
I know it's tough, but hold off...you'll be glad you did.
