What does this mean?
I just bought this badge for my E55 on Ebay and wondering what the design means and whether anyone from AMG actually had anything to do with it?

Here is the official version
I sent an email to the nice folks at AMG and here is what they told me:
Congratulations. This is a very authentic part of AMG's past. This hood
emblem is the original AMG badge which replaced the hood star on M-B models
prior to AMG becoming part of M-B.
I actually have one of these and once my old 500SLC gets a real AMG motor,
I would consider putting it on the hood of my car.
The emblem is made up of the graphics of a camshaft profile, a valve and
valve spring, and of course, the apple tree on the left (for
"Affalterbach") which is listed in an arc across the top.
This hood badge is actually very nicely done (ceramic / chrome debossing)
and would look excellent on a black car.

First of all ... unless I'm mistaken that's the *cheap* AMG hood badge which won't last unless you keep it inside. Sorry, but true (I had one).
Second, according to AMG in Germany, they have never made or provided such a badge for AMG cars.

Sorry to argue
The information I placed in my last post was directly quoted from AMG. I haven't received the badge I bid for on Ebay, but it was described as made from stainless and metal.

I bought the badge too, I am still wondering where to put the thing!, by the way, it wasn't made of stainless like described!, it seems to be made of plastic to me, pissed me off a little actually. Its still okay though...

Anyone look at their engine lately?
I just realized that this badge is a replica of the badge that is stamped on the plate on our engines where the person who built it signed it.
