Bentley Flying Spur
Bentley claims that its new Flying Spur is the fastest production 4-door sedan in the world.
Price: $165,000
http://autos.msn.com/as/minishow/art...k2005&src=News
Here's a little excerpt from the article:
The Flying Spur shares more than just styling with the GT coupe. Under the hood sits the same twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine that produces an impressive 552 horsepower, directed to the pavement through a full-time all-wheel-drive system. This moves the Flying Spur to 60 mph in less than four seconds and to a top speed of 195 mph, making it the fastest 4-door sedan in the world. Impressive numbers, since the car weighs almost 5,500 lbs.
----------------------
I still like my E55 more. But I wouldn't mind owning one of these.

The E-Class does not need more than 500hp. What are we going to do with 650 hp? slip stright though first second AND third?

All German cars are limited
All German cars (except Porsche) limit their cars top end to 155, so it is not hard for Bentley to substantiate this claim. Delimit most AMG 4 door cars and presto, you have the fastest sedan in the world.

well we would have to find tires strong enough to keep these AMG's on the road at those speeds. Audi contracted a tire company to make tires for the Big Fast Sedan and that makes the top speed possible. Our cars are done at 189 mph ... any more and its your risk. They "will" go faster but not in "stock" form.

0-60mph in under 4 seconds? I don't think so. Even Bentley quotes 4.9 in their press release, and they are sometimes optimistic.

One of my friends (read ENT *****) just got a Continental GT. He told me that it was 0.2 sec faster than my E55 to 100mph. I had to hold my tongue and later checked the real stats.... E55 is 2 seconds quicker to 100mph. I tries to be humble but it's tough. :p

Not according to Rob Allen AMG products manager for USA. There have been other posts about the upgrade after the introduction of the new NA 6.3 32v motor. Heard about it at the Challenge.

I can see sub-4 0-60 no problem. it is misleading though, as it will be slower 30 - 70 or 60 - 100 and will most likely have a better et than the E55 but a slower trap speed. It'll smoke us off the line but lose a highway race.
1. awd gives superior launching capability (beats us time wise to 60 and 1250ft)
2. awd has 20%+ PDTL (not as fast on the highway)
(Look to the STI for an exaple of a car that has times far far better than it's hwy performance. Same thing.)

It may have the power, but doesn't come close to be as striking as the E55 looks, in my opinion.
0-60 MPH in sub-4-seconds at almost 3 tons? Makes me wonder...

Another NEVER EVER happen. The flying spur weighs 5,500 lbs and has 552 HP, which is about 9.96 lbs. per HP. The MB E55 weighs 4,100 lbs. and has 475 HP, which is about 8.6 lbs. per HP. So with this HP disadvantage the Flying Spur will not MPH better (HP is what allows a car to MPH) than an E55 will unlimited. On the acceleration side the Flying Spur has 475 lb. ft. of torque which is about 11.75 lbs. per unit of torque and the MB E55 has 512 lbs. of torque which is about 8 lbs. per unit of torque so dispite the E55's two wheel drive disadvantage it will out accelerate the Flying Spur with no problem.

Google "Bentley Flying Spur"
5 other sources I read said to 60 in under 5 (4.9 is the exact quote)
I didn't read the 5500 till now, that may offset the awd and 556hp some
oh well

First off people at a factory event do not know nor do they have the ability to say what is in the pipe line at AMG. The head people may know what is in the works but I doubt they can walk around spouting info.
They may assume or think that it is on the way but I personally would be stunned. The is no reason for a 600-700 hp E55. The car simply would be useless in the hands of the public. It would need 335 rear tires and a LSD to even move. The NA 500 hp AMG and a larger bore version pushing maybe 570 seems far more logical.
AMG is looking to remove positive manifold pressure from the line up not add it back in.
The new car is so interesting because finally it will not be 300 lbs heavier than an E500 but adding turobs to the package will once again bog the chassis down. Chassis dynamics better be #1 at AMG right now because they fell far behind this time around. the W210 E55 was a M5 fighter but the current E55 could not keep up with an M5 once the road turned. I enjoy my E55 but its not perfect
