E63 AMG vs E65 AMG

Hi!

I'm just wondering why the next generation E will be an E63 AMG not an E65 AMG, because there will be a CLS 65 AMG.

http://www.autothing.com/funthings/S...2065%20AMG.htm

Why are they making the CLS more powerfull? I haven't seen any facts or articles about the 6.3L engine except this one:

http://www.autoblog.nl/pivot/entry.php?id=669

But the 6.5L engine is available allready, why not use that one. The Brabus E V12 can handle the heavy V12 and the CLS 65 AMG, so I dont see any reason why there should be no E 65 AMG.

http://www.fast-autos.net/brabus/brabusev12concept.html

Any ideas on the topic?

Well, I think that if there is going to be a bigger AMG engine for the E-Class it will definetly be a 6.5 not 6.3, because unless there will introduce this engine on all AMG special series, they will not make a special engine just for one car, that's my personal opinion not what is going to happen, hope we'll know more about it in the near future.

If this is true, I will be at loss.

The E Class IS the highest selling class Benz has ever created. It IS the cash cow. The S is the status showpiece and is a close second, but the E is the money maker.

I love the CLS, but can't fit the kids in the back without giving them a sedative to prevent claustrophobia.

They make the next E a wimp and M5's (or the other hundreds of 500hp cars) coming out are all over us. I will just go S55....then I have power and the status....just will always miss the monter torque of the E.......sigh.

Again, if this is true, would just love have the heard the boardroom meeting on that decision. CEO "Okay people, next up, what to do with the best selling line we've ever had....I had a thought, maybe we should NOT make the sportiest model so powerful, maybe we make it an average power of all the other models coming out. " Brown noser..."I agree sir....then we can blend in with all the others and not stick out so much" CEO " Great job....this is the kind of FORWARD thinking I asked us to focus on...starting to think more like the American car makers.....NOW, whose got ideas on how to kill the power" hands go up for people eager to impress.......

I am begging for egg on the face on this one....hope the new motor blows us all away......who knows. Gotta feeling we will know more after Frankfurt Auto Show in Sept. That the unveiling of new S etc.....

...........although I have a deposit for a CLS65, and despite the fact that there are many on-line articles about a CLS65, it appears there will infact not be a CLS65. There was an AMG rep at the just concluded Atlanta AMG GTG who stated that there will not be a CLS65. Not sure what will eventually happen. But MB cannot just stick the same NA 6.3 liter engine into all its model lines, because the C63 will then be faster than the E63 or the CLS63. So, we shall see.

My two cents on this, possibly not for the first time.

I think Mercedes AMG has its work cut out for it. We're seeing more and more monster motors in "regular" cars, 500 bhp M5, 550 bhp in the new RS6, etc. The first thing AMG needs to do it put out a motor that can beat all that.

I, unlike many others here, believe that you can get high torque and a reasonably flat torque curve out of a large N/A engine. So I'm rooting for a 550 hp+ 6.3 litre engine- and a match to the current torque number.

The other thing is- sportiness. I think that Mercedes has finally recognised the importance of going around corners. I say this because, almost solely because, of last week's Top Gear episode.

They tested the CLS 55 AMG and unbelievably it went around their track only 0.1 seconds behind the Ferrari 575 GTC and Corvette, and 0.2 s ahead of the AM Vanquish S! I believe that Mercedes has to improve on this as well.

The CLS 55 AMG is great, but the new E63/65 whatever has to beat it. It has to beat- wait for it- everything. Mercedes can do it. I know it can. =)

Oh, and postcripts... a 63 engine would likely be lighter than a 55 or 65. Not sure why, how heavy is a supercharger? I know the N/A 5.5 was lighter than the 3.2K.

Finally... isn't 6.3 a historically significant number for Merc? The displacement of the car that beat them all? =)

There is no 6.5 liter engine currently available from MB. The biggest is 5980cc which you can get in the CL65, SL65, etc.

The next engine will be a true 6.3 liter apx. 62XXcc.

http://www.dinside.no/php/art.php?id=114157

On this page they are suspecting that there will be a C60 (420 bhp) or even a C 63 (500bhp), the E would be an E63 (500bhp), and the CLS would be a CLS 63 (500bhp) or CLS 65 (612bhp).

Pics (probably posted earlier):

I dont care, if they will quit making FI, I'm gonna get either CL600 with tenntch ECU, or E55 with Kleemann Stage 2, FI rocks. MB please make out V8 Twin turbo.
