How do you get it apart? I figure they probably cost about 4 grand each so i don't want to screw it up

heheYou slide out your physical key and use the edge of the key to pop the battery case from the remote unit. You should see a little tab near the edge of where the physical key slides out.

The procedure with pictures is in the manual for the C Class. Maybe it is for the E Class, too?GGM
