Auto Lights....

I don't know if it's a Canadian thing or perhaps even a USA/CAN (North American) thing but it seems that my Lights are always on during daylight and night. My side marker lights are off during the days but when it gets dark enough they light up without me turning the light switchs on. And this is on OFF not on AUTO (switch). Is there a way to turn it off or completely have the xenons off during the day. I like sometimes when it's dark but not really that dark and not be able to have the side marker lens on. (You all would probably say - go buy the euro impacts then. heh) At night time if I turn the lights switch on, it's no difference, since it's on already I figured. The only difference is if it turn on the fog lamps.

edit: Also, I've noticed a few ppl complain about the passenger seats warning alert, or whatever it is for seatbelts when there's not enough weight on the seat. I happen to not have that problem at all and wondering why I don't have that problem. ( even when I have items or some things (weight) on the seat.

I think if u go into the Command menu, there is a setting for "constant" headlight.....turn that to off. That should do the trick.

You cant change that setting in Canada. The lights are on automatically regardless of where the light switch is positioned in the car.

This constant feature is only available for US cars, Canadian cars do not by default allow drivers change the setting due to DRL regulations.

However, with a friendly MB mechanic, I am sure DRL can be defeated. Houston, are you getting anything from Steve?

If so, I'm sure he can turn it off for you.

Why would anyone turn off a safety feature if it has no effect on performance?
Besides coming up behind a lesser car with the Xenons blazing and the 3 pointed star in the rearview morror tells them... Get Out Of My Way!

The extra attention from DRL may actually backfire in less than safe neighbourhood.

I want to have the option to turn off all exterior lights when the car is parked and I have the engine on waiting for somone.

With outside lights on, not only do I attract jealous eyes, one confuses other cars thinking that you're about to leave your parking spot.

I don't mind DRL, but I rather not have it if I cannot choose to turn off the lights when in park.

2004 E55 tectite grey/charcoal
My e55 is tectite grey. The first week I had it I was driving during daylight with the lights off and I had a semi pull out in front of me and later that week 2 different cars pull out in front of me. I think the tectite color blends in too well with the road surface around here. I switched to having the lights on all the time and have never had it happen again. It is nice to be able to turn them off when you are parked though.

I am getting work done by Steve, I'll ask him about it and see what he thinks. one feature I do like is when you sit in the car in park for X amount of seconds, the xenons actually turn off and when you put back into drive and drive off they turn back on. [Unless you have the lights switch on (I think) haven't tried it) ]

I'm quite sure Steve can do it as I have mine disabled by someone with the MB computer. When I'm sitting in the car, I prefer to be able to turn off all exterior lights minimizing attention from beggars, theives, etc.
