Question California - Windshield Mounted devices - Against the Law ??

I was just reading an article in car & driver about Windshield mounted devices and it stated that California has a law against windshield mounted devices. Is this true? I am planning a vacation to the So. Cal area in a few weeks and am concerned about this law and my Windshield mounted Passport 8500 !

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Take it off your windshield and attach it to the sunvisor while you are in California.

this its a hoax being that people all over So-Cal have things on their windows. Note pad, radar detectors, air cleaners etc...

dont worry about it... they also say to put on a front plate but half the people skip that too
