The R-Class shares a platform with the M-Class, and both cars are built at Mercedes' U.S. factory at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The regular R-Class, which goes on sale in the fall, comes with permanent four-wheel drive and, as standard, a seven-speed automatic gearbox with column-mounted shift — features the hot AMG version is likely to retain.
A second AMG version with even more horses under the hood could follow, using a 600-hp, 6.3-liter V8 under development for the new S-Class luxury sedan. This would be badged AMG R63.

Wasn't the 500 hp version going to be called the _63 too even though it was around 6.1L? It would have to be a tt or sc to get the extra 100 ponies out of that block.

I've got wood just thinking about Klee/EVO mods that push it up to near 700hp.
I am gonna have to have an ongoing tranny budget.....they have no hope.

I can't believe they are producing that atrocity called the R-Class with an AMG version.
This is great, Mercedes-Benz releases its first minivan for the US market 15 years too late AND there's an AMG version too!!
