Ride Quality and performance on 19's

I am a proud new owner of an 03 E55 with just about 11,000 miles on it!

Before that I had a pretty nice CLK 430 and was on those boards.

On the CLK we Lowered, increased wheel size, modded brakes, exhaust, etc.

Before I get to work on the E55 I wanted to know from those who have done Wheel upgrades...:

What happened to your ride quality, tire life, performance when you went from stock to 8.5x19 Front and 10x19 Rears?

Please let me know - The car is so incredible that the last thing I would want to do to it is make it look hot at the expense of the performance and ride qualit

I have the 19" AMG rims off of the SL65. I think the car handles a bit better and the ride quality is perfectly fine.

Negligible differences at best, but then I have not been on anything less than 19's since 1997!! You get a slight bit more road feel due the lower profile and increased widths (245 and 275's) but thats a plus for me. You have to get 19's at least on the 211...18's are just too small IMO.

Can't comment on the E55, but I've never noticed a hge difference in ride quality when switching from 17s or 18s to 19s on my other cars. My last two cars were a '95 Toyota Supra TT and '04 BMW M3. In both cases I did not notice a negative impact on ride quality. Same went for my '96 Impala SS where I went from 17s to 20s. If anything truly affected the ride it was the suspension mods. I'd say the suspension makes up 90% of the ride quality, with the rest being the wheels/tires. The main difference will be the road feel, but the car will not necessarily ride more harshly just from switching wheels/tires. I am still on the stock 18s on my E55, but I have ordered a set of 19s which should be here within the next 6 weeks. .

i have 20 " HRE's along with kleemann lowering module and the ride quality is still amazing for such little sidewall to absorb road imperfections,on smooth roads you hardly can tell much of a difference.when road conditions worsen you can feel it more but never has it been as rough as my 2001 CLK 55 that had H&R springs and 19" wheels which became annoying on prolonged driving on bad surface areas.

Thanks to all for the quick responses!

I am considering 19" Carlsson 1/16 UL's, AVUS AFMO2's or HRE 840/841R's in 19".
