E55 Vs S55.

Heyaaaaaa guys, been driving my ML for half a year now... AND ITS BORING. So what i decided is that i'll drive it through the winter and then Most probably I'll get used 2004/5 S55, and keep it Till i can afford new S63.

Here's the question it weight just a bit more, the question is, how much faster E55 is? Any of you drove both cars and can give me quick review of what difference you felt between 2 of them.

I wanted ML63, but after thinking about it i came to conclusion that.

1. Its assembled in ALABAMA
2. It is fast SUV, but I dont really need 4x4 all year long
3. I can take S55 to the track or drag strip with ML63 it wont be as fun
4. S55 has just as much space.
:v

Hey Bo,

Been driving the E for a couple of months now and thoroughly test drove the S/SL/CL 55's before I bought it, even had the S55 for a weekend!

They're all great cars in my opinion, but the E is the way to go. It's also the fastest (by like .2 seconds) and to my liking, handles better (even though the S/CL/SL have ABC). The S seems like it has a harder time handling than the E (weight difference would explain that) and it also isn't as "sporty" as the E.

Don't get me wrong, the S is great but the E is better, the leather is better, the body is better, it looks sleeker and sportier, and it hauls major butt, and I love the Airmatic DC Sport (especially DC Sport II), makes for 3 separate suspension settings (Comfort, DC Sport I, and DC Sport II) plus you can lower and raise the car with a touch of a button.

S63 won't be out until 2 years at the earliest, and the E is in it's "mid-life", which makes for a pretty good time to get on '05/'06.

I felt that the E was the overall winner, that's why I bought it.
For about $94K, fully loaded brand new E55 is the way to go, after all it is "the worlds fastest sedan. period".

Absolutely dont get a used S55. Its a phenominal car, dont get me wrong, but with the new one coming out and all, you'd be a fool to get into one at this point. The interior is way dated as well. I had a 211 E55 for 9 months and it was a great car, I loved it! My only complaint was that it was so inconspicuous. I know many like that fact but for me, a $90K+ car needs to look the part. I would say get a used E55 for now and get on the list ASAP for the S63.

If you get a used E55, you know we'll make fun of you.

Bobcanda's previous life

I've got two kid's seats in the back of the E and there's plenty of room. Don't know how seats would work in the back of the CLS with the split in the middle. I've never driven the S55 or, of course, the ML63, but I'd definitely take the S if those are my choices.

Just remember that even paying all that money for the S55, the car still does not come with all the extras like the E55 (leather headliner for starters). I was told when looking at S55's about 6 months ago that things like that are not standard as on the E55 since the S model has the S65. With the E55 you are getting the top that model offering.

i had two S classes before i bought the E55...i miss the S!!! i'm 6'4" and the S is pimp!! Hind sight being 20/20, i should have bought a '03 s55. doubt if anybody could tell 2 tenths of seconds difference...if so, get a pulley and you're done!

with the new 07' S class coming out...when they arrive at the dealership, i'd go looking for a 03-06 s55 (this is what i'm going to do)...price should be very low compared to sticker and if you have to flip it, you won't loose your ***! most of the s55's i've seen are loaded. i believe the standard features in the s55 are greater than the e55. they may be a bit dated when the 07 comes out but they will be 1/2 price of the 07 600's i bet!...plus they are a fine looking ride.

if you want all the goodies...get a 600...only problem is most of them didn't come with the amg sport package...but...renntech it for 7k and your done. my buddy has a cl600...ran 11.50's at HRP.

good luck!

john

I would recommend you just hang in there and get that S63. Unless you just have money lying around that absolutely needs to be burned. Good luck!

E55 is IMHO the "perfect" car... all around perfect. Get it if you have the $90K!

Nah too much money, plus I used to buy alot of new cars, and i decided that there's no point of doing that, I'd rather buy slightly used one with 15% discount....

Yeah im also 6.3 245 pounds so i like the sizy cars... So yeah i guess thats what im gonna do, i asked my dealers when the new S arriving in Canada and he said This winter, so i guess many people will sell their S55 and get new S500 just for the pimp factor... Plus, I had one of the first 745i with IDRIVE and it was horrible experience... more electronics = more toruble especially in a 1st year cars.

P.s yeah If i buy Benz, I want it to be German Benz not Chrysler Benz lol.

It's funny, that's exactly why I bought this car. It's a plain, boring sedan When someone sees me driving, they have no idea the car cost almost $100,000 and they also have no idea of the performance capabilities of the car.

99% of the population have no idea there is a difference between an E350 and E55.

Bob - I looked at the S and really liked it, but the E did it for me. If you're looking for more space, get the S55. I don't think you can go wrong with it!

we love our s55. my wife is just as happy to drive it as the sl55. it handles and feels smaller than it is. e class is too small for 4 adults in luxury.

Which is why if I ever go tone, it would remain bone stock.. except maybe the ECU. I like the sleeper cars.. I don't care for big flashy 20" wheels, massive body kits, and extra large pipes.. etc.. not tasteful IMHO.

I need to carry pretty much 3 to 4 people most of the times, E class would do the job, but S class will do it better!

If you need comfortable room for 4, get the S. the E has room for 4, but you have to make sacrifices with legroom front or rear seats.

I still prefer the E for over all looks.. unless you're going none AMG, in which case I lean towards the looks of the S.
