Rent an AMG in Germany???

Dudes, I'm lucky enough to go to Germany this weekend (my band is playing at a festival) and coming back next Wednesday so I have a few days for fun. I wondered if any of our members (maybe some live in Germany) know if I can rent a car like mine or better and travel on the Autobahn a little. Man - it's been a dream of mine for some time now so - fingers crossed. We are staying in Stuttgart and I was thinking of a quick ride to Munich and back!!

Thanks, mp

Don't miss out on the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart. It is very impressive. The Porsche museum near Stuttgart is definitely worth a look also, but a much smaller display. BMW in Munich is pretty blah, except for the building itself. Kind of dissapointing, really, so you're not missing much if you don't go. If you want a factory tour of any of these, you need to schedule far in advance and they only offer them on weekdays.
When I went last time the rental agency stuck us with a damn Peugeot 607. Basically a French Toyota Avalon. Even with such a crappy car, the autobahn driving is an experience. This year, I'm praying they give us the BMW we reserved.
$10k to rent a Lamborghini for 5 days?

Hi mbprince, I live in Germany and unfortunately, I have to tell you that renting an E55 or better is possible, but only if you have about 10 grand to leave as a deposit and want to pay a couple grand a day for the car, usually only enabling you to do about 150-200 miles a day.

Most "crappy" rental cars (E220 cdi or BMW equivalent) do about 130mph, so if you're just in for the experience that should be enough. In Stuttgart the selection should be pretty good, I would go to Sixt (esixt.de) if I were you. What I would not do is take it on the Nurburgring. First of all you have no insurance and secondly the track is extremely demanding! I would not take that risk if I were you...

Enjoy your trip whatever you do!

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
And BTW, the BMW thing is worth doing...

if for no other reason than the retail accessory shop/store nest door. Last time I was there it was a candy store for BMW stuff!
