I can tell you now that the Z06 is not only really quick stock, but the aftermarket mods are plentiful and cheap. It uses a GM smallblock LS7, so you can also use some mods from the LS2 found in the new C6s and GTOs (and some other GMs), LS6 (C5 Z06), and LS1 found in the C5s and Camaros and Trans Ams.

It's decision if you want an outright speed demon or a luxury mobile with lots of pull.

I would never pay that much for a Chevy. Corvettes are for old grey haired men.(at least thats the only people I see driving them) LOL Get the E55 and the Nissan Murano for the wife and kids.

Get the Benz, the Vette is crap...agree that modding it will be cheaper but it's still a vette. I have to admit that even though MB's quality is not what it used to be..it's still waaaaaaay above what Chevy benchmarks for quality, even in their sportscar. Plus, you'll have an addt'l two doors....

not sure if budget is an issue. You will spend more by buying the Z06 and another SUV. You will get best result in one package with the E55. You get 4 doors and a acceleration on par with the Z06 and you don't have to own two cars. Also, I very much doubt that the E63 is going to be faster than the 211 E55, because of the low torque of the E63's NA engine. Looks like mercedes created a legend when they stuffed the AMGV8K engine into the 211 chasis. An 03 211E55 can be had for as low as $56K(US).

I still say if you want a fast family mover, go used S600. The small apartment they give you in the back seat area is incredible, plus for another 1500, you flash the ECU and you are all set to roll 11.5's like Mr Trey.....well drag rads of course, but no 12-15K like we had to blow to get there.

New S Class is gonna start trickling in next year and won't really be a "you're driving an old model" issue til later 07. Not to mention the average schmoo really doesn't study Benz's like we do and won't know the difference for awhile.

03-04's running in the 60-80's range on autotrader right now.

There is a black one running around with killer rims in my area, just stunning...what a car!

Consider more cars. Look at more cars. I've considered pulling the trigger on a new Z06 every year since 2000: performance on the '06's is just awesome, But the interior (even upscaled as it is now) is just Chevy -- cannot compare to any nice european anything.... I'd go nice and performance before I'd go just performance -- especially for the kind of money that you'll ahve to pay for a new Z06.
