Clear Bra Opinions and Chicago Installers
What do you guys think of these? I like the idea of protecting from chips but I hate the idea of seeing the material line everytime I walk up to my Flint Grey car. I also have paranoid fears about removing the stuff in a couple years and pulling off my paint.
anybody have it done in Chicago area and pleased with the job

I'm in Chicagoland and had my Tectite Grey E55 done in August of this year year. It looks great. The installer came to my home and charged less than a shop would. I then drove the car to Denver (the stone and chip capital of the US it seems) and it worked like a charm. It is easy to remove if the need ever comes up. I also had all my lights done, the side mirrors and the bumper top going into the trunk. Personally I don't know why anyone that invests a lot of money in a car wouldn't get the clear bra. I'm a big fan.

i agree....if you have a high end car you should protect it. I had it installed on my 06 E55 and it worked great....and soon as i get the chance to...it will get it installed on my new CLS55!! If you guys get it done i would recommend VentureShield its the best on the market IMO

Never had and never will.
Every job I've seen you can clearly see the edges and they have a horrible orange peel finish. I buy a car to admire it's beauty, not to hide it behind some protective plastic. If I can afford a mercedes, I can afford to have it repainted down the road and chalk it up to normal wear and tear.
I have never not liked a 1969 Mustang Shelby, 1993 MB 500E or a 1972 Porsche 911S because it had rock chips.

Here's your man!
Both of my 55's have the paint protector, and I have no complaints! I got mine installed by Rick at Body-skins. He gave me a warranty not to peel or yellow, so you have no worries. He's in the Chicagoland area, and will come to your house to apply.
You can get more info at www.body-skins.com!

I am a certified 3M Scotchgard Paint Protection Film installer in the San Antonio, TX area. The new generation 3M Scotchgard film has minimal orange peel compared to the older generation. I would recommend that whatever brand of paint protection film that you use have a clear coat finish. 3M uses only clear coated film.
Yes, there is still a line at the end of the kit which is most noticeable on the hood of black cars. It virtually disappears on metallics. If you parked your car at a shopping mall, most people walking by will never see the kit. You do, because you know that it is there.
As far as maintaining the film, wash and wax both the car and the film regularly using a non abrasive clear coat safe wax.
This film really does protect your car against chips and bird droppings.
