So it looks like a pure drivetrain swap. From the "spy" pics, it does not look like the body changed.

Hmmm...10% more horsepower but less tq. Are they just replacing the kompressor engine with n/a for simplicity? The car seems that it will not be that much different than the 55.

During our October AMG/MB meet @ MBUSA Headquarters this past year, we learned a very surprising reason why. This is not the only reason cited, but an interesing one all the same and worth repeating. Safety is now extending beyond the confines of the interior of the car.

You may recall seeing (I think it is) a VW advertisement where a guy catches a football while running into the front of the car and landing on the hood ; where the ad discusses how the cars have been engineered to cause less harm to a pedestrian in the event that pedestrian is hit by the car.

Well what the Mercedes/AMG representative told us was with this engine, there is three more inches between the hood and engine, giving the cusion room needed so that someone doesn't impact on the hard compressor on top of the engine, if they were to get hit by the car and land on the hood...

...I kid you not.

Only thing that will really bum me out is this future post.

"Just got er back from Renntech guys....over 10,000$ and 2 weeks of non stop work, ECU, Headers, Airbox......you are now talking to the proud owner of a 540 hp monster gentlemen"

Our only hope may be that Benz kinda winked at us with the orange CLK test N/A that put out 580 with their "unrestricted exhaust" Perhaps with headers/free flow exhaust and ECU she will pull some K2 numbers hp wise.....never torque of course.

Heh heh....til Cory at Kleeman puts the first blower on!!!!

I've been posting this for 6 months: MBZ thought they they had to get rid of the S/C's to meet the new (2007) pedestrian safety law in Europe (or just EU?). Now I see that they've come out with crumple zones in the hood of the GL.... The crumple-zone technology may allow them to keep using the S/C engines, I don't know.....

The car should be pretty different at speed with a 7 speed gearbox.
