Brakes Worn - Does this sound right.
To All,
My service advisor is on vacation so I an using a different guy. I am getting a B+ service down on my 04 E55 and he called saying that my front brakes are at 10% remaining on my front pads and my front disc is below MB specs. I have 33K miles on the car. Does this sound right or does it sound like he wants to sell me on some service. I never drive hard or track the car. Just normally driving...
What do you guys think? I have never had trouble stopping or hearing any sqeaking.
Thanks for your input.

I have not replaced the brake pads etc at 34000km.
Recently had brake warning message - was a faulty sensor. Pads and rotors were OK dealer said.
If the pad sensor hasn't shown a fault why not wait till your regular guy comes back?

things with and without wheels
Brake wear is relavant to the type of driving you do ,city or highway.
City driving wears pads faster than highway. As a rule of thumb you should wear 2 sets of fronts by the time you'll need the rears .

26k on the first set of pads in my CLK. I do a fair amount of stop and go freeway driving. Your experience matches what I have experienced in most cars and trucks I have owned. Best was 60K in my old 85 F150, worst was 18k in my 96 Tacoma.
Take this opportunity to switch to low dust pads.

I wish I knew how Car & Driver can "extrapolate" life expectencies for brakes on their long term cars that are three to four times as long as most people get out of them.

They quoted me 900 + change for the replacement of the front pads and rotors/disc. They will give me a 15% discount which will bring it to 800 and change. Still a ton of money for not having any brake issues or warning that the brakes were wearing out.
