New guy in San Diego
Hey everyone I wanted to formally intorduce myself. It was my dad actually who picked up a Pewter 05 E55 yesterday. I have been searching or lurking around this site for a while to try and gather a bunch of good information prior to him buying the car. I found exactly the stuff I was looking for. We ended up with an 05 with 7000 miles on it and the options are Lighting Package, Keyless Go, 6CD Changer, Trunk Closer. I don't have any pictures up yet but you all know what the car looks like. I myself have a modded 03 Cobra so I feel so good old family racing coming on. Anyways I will be around here a lot looking for a few good mods to do to the E55. Are there any hang outs or shows or anything like that in So Cal for Benz's? Thanks again.

Welcome... where did you get it... I am working on setting something up... I'm new to the board but used to be on the Board of Directors for So Cal SVTOA and a Saleen Owners group, but now just loving my E55!

Well hopefully it will be a semi close race between us. We bought it at Fletcher Jones in Newport. Unbelievable dealership. I am a member of So Cal SVTOA as well. I will have to check the events and gatherings so I can meet up with you guys.

not sure how the Cobra will stand up if it's stock... and it would actually need to be pretty modded to have the torque of the E55, so in a straight line I think Dad would take your cookies but on a track... you'd hand him his lunch...

well, I just sold a Saleen Cobra that used to be R. Range's here on the board... it had a COMPLETE Griggs racing suspension and on the track there wasn't anything that could touch it, but on the straights it was nothing... I know the newer Cobra's are supercharged but still the torque doesn't compare to the E55, but a touched Cobra let's say with a Kenny Bell blower... maybe...

The e55 has a lot of torque but my evo feels faster simply because it has traction through the launch and revs to 9k having 425whp on 91 and 550whp on c16. Since the cobra also has a big motor, I suppose it shouldn't be too hard to mod it give the e55 a run for its money. To me the e55 is just a comfort cruiser and just happens to be pretty quick.

Yea, I looked at that car and an O5 Black one they had and in fact had a really good deal for that car but it had all the older 04 parts, no trick foot pedals, and the split center console. The only 05 appointment it had was the 200 mph speedo. The reason I didn't buy it was the owner list was already at 3 owners and the car was less than 14 months old... I thought that was kind of funny, and at the time they we're not dealing on the car your father got...
So what I found out is that some 05's still had the split console and plastic foot pedals.... I guess AMG used them until they ran out!

I prefer the split system and do miss it. I think they did transition that part out, cause I've seen many '05s with it. I did think that all '05s had the pedals, though. Oh well, you can always pick up a set?

Well, I have a two year old and the split console I think will LAST LONGER in my household... as far as the pedals, not sure if I'm going to go stock AMG or Brabus... I know the AMG just click on and the AMG has to be drilled and bolted!
Thanks
Thanks

I am glad to hear that some of the 05's had the older console. I was a little bummed about the pedals but seem to like the split console a little more myself. They actually gave us well we think a pretty good deal on the car we picked up. It only had one owner and 7000 miles so we figure it cant be beat up on too bad. That is funny that you looked at it though.

Yea, when I looked at it they had a 2005 BRAND NEW E500 that they added something like $24000.00 of wheels and body kit stuff including the trick steering wheel everyone wants in their car including me~ But the car was basically stock... no lighting package, no heated seats, no rear shade, no NAV, basic basic basic... well they were dealing on that car, I think it stickered with all the added parts something like $75k but the orig MSRP was $56, they offered it to me for $55... and wouldn't come down on the E55... well to make a short story longer, I found my car in Beverly Hills and they gave us heck of deal I think, an 04 pretty well loaded with the Cert of 100k for $70k... I'm happy, I really didn't think I wanted black though... I really wanted to buy the white one that was for sale on the board but the car started having some issues along with the owner... so like I said, I'm happy with the BEAST in the garage~
