Aftermarket Extended Warranty
As I come up on the end of the 4-year manuf. warranty (July 2006) I'm considering whether or not to purchase an extended warranty.
I plan to keep the W210 (2002) at least until 100,000 miles if not more. Currently putting about 8000 miles/year on the car. Not beating it
Here are the quotes from auto warranty broker.com (Mercury Insurance) - they offer 2 levels of component coverage (silver and gold) and one level of exclusionary coverage, probably not too far off from MB base coverage (all numbers take $100 deductible into consideration):
Silver (12 components - Engine, transmission, transaxle, transfer case, drive axle, suspension, steering, engine cooling, brakes, ignition, electrical, fuel system, A/C, towing, rental)
60 months/100,000 miles $2,805
72 months/100,000 miles $2,965
Gold (the above components - plus radio/CD and chassis components, tire damage and trip interrruption)
60 months/100,000 miles $3,340
72 months/100,000 miles $3,530
Platinum (every component covered except usual exclusions for brake pads, tires, etc.)
60 months/100,000 miles $4,000
72 months/100,000 miles $4,245
Is this worth it? What are the odds for a major failure in a '02 W210? Would you do this for an '02 W210 with 30K miles?
Thanks in advance for all of your thoughts!

Here's my advice on aftermarket warranties:
Talk to your service/repair shop and ask what companies they accept. Many "well known" aftermarket extended warranties have gone belly-up in recent years.
Buyer beware.
FWIW, it's going to be near impossible to locate a quality aftermarket warranty that covers AMG. Good luck and please share your results.

Like Chappy says, go to the tech who fixes the cars and find out who the
warranty company is. I went to the stealership, spoke to the service advisors
to give opionions on the ones the stealership sells before I bought. I have not
used it yet, but I guess, if the stealership sells it, they have an obligation
to honor it...providing ofcourse, they have not gone out of business.

1) I thought the option for taking the MB extended warranty had expired
2) I don't understand the issue of dealer 'acceptance' - the aftermarket warranty company pays the dealer directly - cash (corporate credit card).
