What speed does your governor kick in?
I have an 05 E55 and mine stops at 158MPH. It gets to 156 fast and then eases up to 158. I've done it more times than I can count and its the same everytime. How about everyone else?
Only those who have actually hit the governor please.

Hey gov guys...what exactly happens when you hit the limit.
They told me at the dealer that ECU shuts off the fuel pump, but it sounds now like it just shuts the throttle body enough to slow the car. Let's say you were on unlimited speed flat road....would she just hold at 158?? Just curious.
As always be careful.....I've been at 145-150, the speed didn't freak me out as much as the distance it takes to slow down.....wow.
Braked moderately and felt like I was doing okay, then looked down and was still at around 90. Guess it's true, at over 150 there is no panic stopping.....just death.

I have stopped with full braking force from 158 three times, it feels like you are hanging from the seatbelts, the brakes are amazing. These hard stops turned my rotors yellowish blue and resulted in severe surface cracking. I have since had the rotors replaced under warranty but I won't do any full power stops from speed until after I have had the rotors cryo treated.
Even though the rotors had surface cracks they still performed great, I even did a track day before the replacement.
Hey Derek who removed your governor?? Kleeman told me they wouldn't go any higher than 186 due to tire and liability concerns.

I've gone to 159 with the stock ECU. The dyno shows the car going to over 180 with K2. I haven't had a chance to test that on pavement due to winter. One problem is the 160 speedometer to be able to measure over 160. Mercedes said the anolog and the digital both only go to 160, the dyno comfirmed this. I'm checking into a headsup speedometer display. Does anyone know of an add on speedometer for the E55?
I asked Cory at Kleemann about a 200 mile limit. He did get authorization to do it at a cost of an extra $1000.00 just to set the limit from 185 to 200. For the number of times I will go 200 it didn't seem worth the money.

mine read 160 and the limiter had'nt come into play, but i ran out of road to go any further.the 20" wheels probably accounted for this because they are slightly taller than the factory wheels.

I am about to put a set of 20"s on my car what size tires are you running F & R and do they ever rub?

Out Of Control!!
I think I might get a chance to some scientific testing this Friday. I will take my GPS and compare the speeds in the upper limits. I have stock tires and wheels. I think it will be interesting to how they compare. The GPS is supposed to be accurate within .1 (1/10) MPH.

I spoke to a Guy named Bob Reed there he was very knowledgeable and spent almost 30 min on the phone with me answering all my questions. I need to find the time to have my car unusable for 10 days.
I want to do the cryo treatment and then go abuse the rotors again and see if they still crack.

if you're running stock tires you will get more mph when the tires are new vs. bald tires. when i had my busa, we use to make top speed runs with a gps. on a old tire that was worn i got 193...the next day, with a new tire (same brand and size) i got 196 and was on the limiter. it amazed me how tread depth would vary top speed.
