So guys, how about an engine swap?
Half the E55 owners here have modified their E55s, some to an extensive amount. After what Derek accomplished in his, seems like a lot of people are figuring out ways to squeeze more and more outta that blown 5.4.
So why not the engine swap? I have never seen anyone do a motor swap here. Is it because of the cost involved? The amount of work that has to be put in to swapping a motor?
It would be pretty cool to have a W211 with a Biturbo V12. I'm aware that companies such as Brabus do swaps, but you don't select the engine that's swapped in always.
On top of all of this, what are your takes on swapping in a non-Mercedes/AMG motor (I know, horrific nightmares are running through your mind, but that's okay)? What about a Chevy big block (don't punch me in the face over the internet, its just a wild thought)?
How about an E65 AMG 4MATIC with the new 7-speed tranny? We can dream right!
How about a V12 Biturbo?

My advice to you is get 2 more of that 215rwhp of fury and you'll have a total of 648rwhp!

I say we strengthen up the bottom end on it and Kompress or Turbo the crap out of it.
Couple a grand, well maybe 5, and you are in the 350rwhp range easy.

All things being equal, displacement between the 55 and the V12's is virtually a "wash", but the V12's can run smaller injectors per cylinder at any given horsepower level. So, I reckon there would be some drivability and emissions barriers.
As far as making the bottom end stronger, there has been tons of knowledge gained in that department over the years. Just a matter of finding someone that can apply it to the MB V8.
But, I'm probably dreaming bigger than my pocket book and being an armchair engineer. I do, however, think the future looks bright for even more out of the 55's. For a big displacement German motor, the platform has been put into a lot of vehicles.
