So guys, how about an engine swap?

Well first off, I probably don't belong here with my insignificant 215 rwhp of fury but I have a little question for you guys. :p

Half the E55 owners here have modified their E55s, some to an extensive amount. After what Derek accomplished in his, seems like a lot of people are figuring out ways to squeeze more and more outta that blown 5.4.

So why not the engine swap? I have never seen anyone do a motor swap here. Is it because of the cost involved? The amount of work that has to be put in to swapping a motor?

It would be pretty cool to have a W211 with a Biturbo V12. I'm aware that companies such as Brabus do swaps, but you don't select the engine that's swapped in always.

On top of all of this, what are your takes on swapping in a non-Mercedes/AMG motor (I know, horrific nightmares are running through your mind, but that's okay)? What about a Chevy big block (don't punch me in the face over the internet, its just a wild thought)?

a chevy big block is pointless since it would take a lot of money which could be better spent at Kleeman and get a better result. I think the idea of the 65 motor is the only way to go. The real problem isn't power its traction.

How about an E65 AMG 4MATIC with the new 7-speed tranny? We can dream right!

Then it won't be an AMG.

Alright, I think I was getting a bit wild about the big block thing. Scratch it.

How about a V12 Biturbo?

Sure! It's called a Brabus EV12 and costs over $350,000!

Wouldn't the V12 biturbo be more expensive than a biturbo small block LS6?

A V12 BiTurbo would probably cost as much as a race tuned big block.

Why would you even think of doing an engine swap when you have your insignificant 215rwhp of fury? lol :p My advice to you is get 2 more of that 215rwhp of fury and you'll have a total of 648rwhp! :p

You are underestimating my 215 rwhp buddy. Nothing can match it. I once took on a Geo, and let me tell you, it blew him away.

there was a CLK once upon a time on ebay with a chevy engine in it... looked awful, the gauges were also torn out and replaced with a custom set... the only thing I would swap in in place of an AMG engine would be a zonda engine... oh wait, I suppose that 7.3 is an AMG too, lol

We don't need an engine swap, we need a blower swap. Our engines would support gobs more power than anyone is making but there is no way to move the air through the engine with the relatively puny 1.8 liter blower AMG used. Coming up with a replacement blower package wouldn't be simple, but it would be less complicated than an engine swap (particularly from a V8 to a V12).

I was thinking the same thing!!! If the ricers can do it, why can't you. They take those 4 bangers and pump out crazy hp with them. You are light years ahead of them already.
I say we strengthen up the bottom end on it and Kompress or Turbo the crap out of it.

Couple a grand, well maybe 5, and you are in the 350rwhp range easy.

As long as we are talking engine swap, why not put the 5.5SC motor in something else, like a 55 Chev, a 30 something coupe/roadster, etc? There are some E, etc 55's that have been totalled and have good motors in them. I bet it would be a great set up.

Yep ... count me in as the third. The turbos off of the 600's, or pushing the Kompressor to have it's horsepower peak at a lower RPM would be big time fun in the torque department. With turbo's, big horsepower as well.

All things being equal, displacement between the 55 and the V12's is virtually a "wash", but the V12's can run smaller injectors per cylinder at any given horsepower level. So, I reckon there would be some drivability and emissions barriers.

As far as making the bottom end stronger, there has been tons of knowledge gained in that department over the years. Just a matter of finding someone that can apply it to the MB V8.

But, I'm probably dreaming bigger than my pocket book and being an armchair engineer. I do, however, think the future looks bright for even more out of the 55's. For a big displacement German motor, the platform has been put into a lot of vehicles.

NOW you're talking! I'd love to see a 55K motor in my '32 B Coupe even though the 500" BB Chevy I have in there now puts out over 100HP more than the MB motor.

I dont think there would be anything wrong with putting a corvette engine in assuming you take the time and money to get it to work properly with stock mb electronics (gauges, climate control, tranny)
