Angry Sirius Antenna Location?

Question:

Took my '04 in today for a minor issue, asked for the Sirius add on. $940 total(yeah, I know their cost from previous posts, but WTF, it was payday).

They mounted the antenna in the middle of the trunk!!!!! I didn't even think to ask where it would be put, seeing as most installs are up on top, above the rear window.

So, who else has installed after the fact with this location?

I think it looks like crap there!!

I saw a pretty creative Sirius antenna install - A nice neat hole cut out of the mesh under the engine compartment heat vents on the hood.

Dude $940.00 WTF! Should be 1/2 of that, how many years of service did you get for that price?

Yep, been discussed many, many times. That is the standard location where they install them at the port and most dealers, and yes, it looks like hell. Several people have had them put in alternate locations, most commonly under the rear decklid or parcel shelf, and they work well (mine is under the decklid). Unfortunately that won't help you now unless you want to buy a new rear decklid to get rid of the hole in it.

Here's mine. Antenna is mount near the wiper base. It's completely out of sight from normal view. I always have perfect signal.

Total cost:

- Sirius radio unit: $50
- Labor: an hour of my time.

Yep, they put the antenna in the same place as CANDRIVE55's, though I assumed it would be next to the sat/gps antenna--wish I had specified that or just asked first--too late now.

I did manage to get a free year of service through some smooth talking; turns out the MB 1yr free Sirius offer has expired--should have been a couple of years free with that price I know....

At this point, not gonna beat myself up over it, I can't stand regular radio anymore, and now I am set.

HP mods next!

I'm attempting a similar install of an XM Roady unit. Problem is the tray door won't close be cause the unit is 1/8 inch too thick. As a result I pulled the whole door unit and ash tray unit out and will fabricate my own support pieces. Do you know the thickness measurment of your radio? Thanks.

If you can i would take it back and get an XM commander its really small and will fit anywhere.

http://www.siriusbackstage.com/forum...=30550&start=0

You can get the XM commander here using this deal for $50 for radio but you have to buy 3 months of service right off the bad so the total for the radio and service is $98 and you dont have to pay the normal $10 activation fee.

They also have good deals on any radio including the portable XM units for $99.

I have an 03 E55,and would like to know if anyone has installed an XM radio in their car.If so i would like to know which XM unit you used and where did you place it.I have seen it placed in the ashtray in the 210/E55,but i have not seen an install on an 211/E55.
Also ,which unit fits better in the 211/E55? The dealer says that the Sirius is compatable with MB,thus they will not install an XM.
I am kind of partial to XM b/c i have it in my my other cars and i am very familiar with the # for my favourite radio stations.
