Anyone ever thought of ram air???

Only drawback is you would have to get slots in the hood, but you could really increase the surface area from which to suck the air from. Guess the only thing you would have to custom make is the connection between the hood and the filters so that it would be be a tight fit when you close the hood.

Wonder if that would solve our air intake questions......if it did, would you put a few lines in the hood. Someone here had it done didn't they??

Thought for the week.

The Mercedes intakes already use a ram air effect at their stock location.

^ what he said.
u can make the tubes bigger (some models have a beginning of the tube thats narrower than the opening in the airbox) though and "shave" the inside of the airbox

Ram Air - which is a Pontiac trademark BTW - only works on non forced induction cars. There's no point with the SC.

Well, actually, it does help the supercharger push the air into the manifold quicker than just drawing the air via suction. It's worth some hp but not a whole lot.

Agree. It doesn't matter if there's a S/C there or not - any increase in pressure in the intake tract will increase flow. More flow = more power.

For most of the ram air systems back in the day, increased power was mostly due to the cooler and denser ambient air, rather than from the ram effect. But, if implemented correctly (ie, put the ram openings in a high-pressure area like the front of the grill), ram air can add some good top-end power (assuming the fuel maps are adjusted accordingly).

Try this: drive down the highway at 75 mph and stick your hand out the window with your open palm facing forward. Feel the pressure? Now put the bottom of an empty coffee can in your palm and stick it out the window facing forward. What do you think will happen? Can you imagine 100+ mph? Can you imagine doing this with a 1-gallon can? The bigger the opening, the bigger the impact.
