"REST" Menu Feature

Dunno if you guys know of this already but I find it usefull to view some stuff...

In particular
-coolant temp
-engine rpm
-speed

To do this press "REST" on Thermotronic for 5 secs and a diff dispaly comes up use the temp toggles to move the left values up and down (that refers to the menu number) the right value is the metric data. There are around 40 diff codes here, but the most usefull one for me is 06 - coolant temp. Much more accurate to view than the stupid bar graph.

01 In-car temperature sensor.
02 Outside temperature sensor.
03 Heater core temp, left.
04 Heater core temp, right.
05 Evaporator temperature sensor.
06 Engine coolant temperature.
07 Regrigerant pressure in bar (e.g. '4' is 4 bar).
08 Refrigerant temperature.
09 Not used.
10 Heater blower control voltage (normal 08-6.0, meaning .8 to 6 volts).
11 Emissions sensor voltage (to detect atmospheric gases and recirculate interior air).
12 Sun sensor voltage (to shift airflow in car).
20 Control current for auxilliary fan (electric fan on radiator, given in milliamps or mA).
21 Engine speed (x100).
22 Road speed (km/h or mph depending on installation).
23 Battery voltage at terminal 58d (as a percentage of total voltage, e.g. 99.0 = 99%).
24 Battery voltage (e.g. 12.8 = 12.8V).
40 Climate control software version.
41 Climate control hardware version.

Rgds Steve.

P.S. to get back press REST agn.

Not sure whre the thermotronic module is. You don't mean the "Rest" button by the climate control buttons, that was discontinued, do you?

Dunno about discontinued ...but its in my '06 E55 .... part of the top centre console where all the a/c controls are.

Where you set the temps and A/C fan speeds etc ... there should be a button "REST".

so what can you do once you get into this little menu? Is it just for looking at or can you change anything?

Ok, on the CLS's there is a blank space for a button on the A/C controls panel located right between the driver's side up/down temp control button and the "small/lower fan" speed button. It's just a dummy blank button.

Is this where you are referring to?

I want to know how to access this stuff if you don't have that button on the Thermotronic panel.

Maybe they don't think MB owners care enough about this information and deleted this feature?

2004 E55
I have a 2004 E55. The actual AC off button says REST under the AC off title. I pressed that button for 5 to 10 seconds and sure enough that screen came up. Mine came up with 00 which I could scroll to 99 with the drivers temp adjustment. I can change each of the 00 to 99 values with the passenger temp control. There is no description of what 00 to 99 is.

Stevebez, where did you get the directory descriptions of the numbers from?

I called the Mecedes help number, (I have never found then to be useful) and they couldn't tell me what this menu is or what it is used for. They just explained the "rest" feature to me. They thought maybe it was some kind of diagnostic function and not to mess with it and get out of the menu right away.

I sure would like to know what these 100 parameters are and what changing them does.

I think the "rest" button is only on 2003 & 2004 cars. The 2005 and up don't have it, but there must be a way to access that menu...

Hi Guys sorry you not having much luck here but I find this mode really usefull... I got the stuff from another forum where all this was listed. Its a pity that it is an A/C diagnostic mode (all the metrics relate to A/C performance) and not a real feature - that would be neat. Its a bit of a nuiscance that the left value is just a number in the list of the data and not a proper description. The value on the right is the output data...

Ill get you guys a pic this w/e ... I only really use it for speed and coolant temp.

Ordinarily the display just reads the left and right a/c temp settings.

I dunno why the REST feature is not present on some models (yes its the button left of the "lower fan" button) - but mbe its only cars with thermotronic - but isnt that standard ?

Rgds Steve

Hi,

My 02BY, 03MY S55 also has this feature. But mine shows 100 codes (00-99). I wonder where I can find the exact explanation, and what codes are changable...
