Cool, now if MB could do something about the tremendous number of other cars in the way of my daily "cruise" to the office, I might be able to tap into even 50% of the current, speed-limited potential of my car!

You know, I would like to believe that this is true -- but I just got told, "NEIN!" by AMG not too many months ago....

Perhaps it is a change in policy due to BMW competition in the USA concerns, or due to the change in management at AMG which just occurred recently....

Either way I do hope that it is true.....

And for those Slow Moving Vehicles in the left lane? I'm hoping that later this year AMG offers the .50 Caliber Option....

Now how about a button via the console where we can fully turn off traction control.

The Presidential E55 limited series actually has missile lock-on detection kit. U52 option code.

Mercedes AMG offers to remove speed-limiters in U.S. - Not Quite

The Leftlane News article makes it seem as though AMG is offering an after-sale "kit" to change/remove the speed limiter and cite Ward's Auto as their source. Unfortunately, the original Ward's announcement only refers to the 030 option for the SL55, CLS55, and SLK55:

For 249$, you can do it right now. Speedtuningusa.com for those who can't wait.

You get what you pay for of course, but Oliver's ECU totally removes top speed limit.

Klee's ECU info says theirs is good to 185, but obviously Derek beat that with his at 193? Wonder if that is just Brandon and Cory keeping us from killing ourselves?

It's the stupid German "Green Party" that has that 155mph law on all cars made there... but from what I'm told removing that limiter is a cottage industry in the big D.

BTW.... Ricky, I see you finally discovered Van Halen! With all of those no-name guitarist you were listing in the "best guitarist" thread, I had you written off .. Eddy is one of the "gods" of guitar.. good sig!

Aren't Presidential cars just cars that have been driven by Mercedes Mngmt?

All kinds of aftermarket tuners offer a Vmax delimiter delete or change-out. It is a big industry in Germany. AMG will even do it themselves for you on most of their models -- but not if the car is a USA car and coming here!

i was over at the amg web site, where the performance packages for a few models feature a raised limiter threshold, but that's about all.

Not true. It was actually a gentleman's agreement by Audi, BMW and Mercedes in the mid 1980s to keep the horsepower race from getting out of hand. Slowly but surely, however it is beginning to crumble. The old Europe-only Audi RS6 Plus Avant was governed at 280 km/h, as was the M3 CSL if the buyer presented a racing license. AMG delimits their cars to 280 km/h or 300 km/h at a cost, depending on the model. BMW now offers this too in Europe on the M5 and M6 (305 km/h delimitation). There is no law in Germany against cars that do more than 155 mph. If there were, every single Porsche built save the Cayenne V6 and Cayenne S would be illegal. Nevertheless, this article is good news. Now, if they could only equip the normal Mercedes models with real summer tires instead of allseason rubber and let them do their true top speed......
