CLS500 rims on the E55?

Anyone try it? the website says the E has 18X8 and 18X9 and the CLS500 has 18X8.5 and 18X9.5

I do not want to get larger diameter tires, since it just gives more straight line stability (which is already tight).

So, if I were going to stick to 18", what do you guys think about the CLS500 rims? I know weight and cost is not the "best", but I do like the looks. I am growing ready tired of the AMG look.

Also, why does the CLS500 have smaller tires than us, but on wider rims? Is that a part of the supposed better handling?

CLS rims on a W211. Owner is howard500. Claims his car is lowered and has no rubbing issues.

It would look like *****. You'd be putting non-AMG wheels on an AMG car. You'd also probably have to run spacers (if you were really hellbent on getting them) since the offset is more than likely not designed for big brakes. So you'd have crappy non-AMG wheels sticking out past your fenders. Not a good idea for an E55.
Leave them to the E350, E500. The E55 is in a class all it's own.

These pictures are making me feel cold. Do you know where they were taken?

I hate the AMG rims, and the guy with the E500 says no spacers were used. I would never use spacers, anyway (just philosophy). I did not think about the brakes, though but they are both 18"s. I guess i could look into the HREs as well?

Some of you hate the E55 AMG wheels?

I like them, but I don't know if the offset is exactly correct for a w220. Of course, anyone who wants to get rid of them can send a set to me.

Aren't the CLS55 rims 19"s? I don't know if I wan to go bigger than 18. I want wider, but dunno if I like the feel of the larger diameter. That E w/ CLS55 rims does look pretty good.

CLS55 can be placed on a E55... however you have to switch the rear tires out... and I think you can only do 8.5 all the way around..

there was a discussion about this in the classified ads..

personally the CLS55 wheels are the best wheels out there for AMG.

Have you ever had 19" wheels? Sounds like you don't have much experience with plus sizing wheels. I remember a time when people felt 18" wheels were HUGE. Nowadays, tire technology is so advanced, the difference between 18" and 19" is so minimal as to be barely perceptible. It's a simple +1 fitment and nowhere near as drastic as, say, going from 16-20" using the same overall diameter. Another important factor is the airmatic suspension which makes a huge impact on preserving good ride quality.

thats same thought I had...

but here you guys... from the classified adds...

https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...ighlight=CLS55

8.5"... 265/245 max!

the rear would look a bit skinny... but not that bad.

After all the stock AMG rims are only 9".

Thanks. I like those wheels. IMO, the simple, 5spoke design looks really good on the E55.
