Is it me or are these cars impossible to launch in cold weather? This is the first winter I've owned my W211 E55 and I've found it almost impossible to launch aggressively. Even with the ESP on, the rear tires break lose very easily and the car goes sideways. In the summer, I was able to launch without too much difficulty. Is it possible the cold weather (less than 40), causes the engine to produce too much torque for the ESP to control, or is the problem the tires? I've gotten to the point that I don't even want to race from a dead stop because of the traction problems.

Don't worry man, it's not just the power, I think it's the tires as well.

I have Dunlop 5000's I think (maybe 9000's, I don't remember) on the LS430 and it breaks loose very easily and it has a fraction of the torque as the E55.

It's both - the colder, denser air makes more power and the cold pavement/tires make it very difficult to put that extra power to the ground. The tires play a larger part than the extra power, IMO.

there's no need to launch beast in cold weather its also very very hard to impossible, and its dangerous too.

Once i raced M3 in -22 stock tyres and both of us were strugling on a launch it slightly hooked up after 80km/h even then ESP was kicking in.

Anyway dive safe in cold weather.

Actually, my recommendation is no diving in cold weather, just driving

I don't go onto the track (assume it would be the same for the strip) when the track temp is below 55 degrees farenheit, or until the track temp gets above that temp.... Too dangerous.
