Lets do it...

I am interested... My 06 is completely stock w/about 3000 miles. Lets do this before I have the Rentech mod along w/Eisenman exhaust. PM me.

In any case, per my discussions with 1Wayne, he informed me that this would be a good place to inquire if there were any So Cal E55 AMG owners (current, 469hp models) that would be willing to "play" a little with a CTS-V, for comparison purposes. Note that this is not a "pissing" contest, nor a "bragging rights" contest, or anything else that would otherwise cause hard feelings. This is merely intended to not only have fun, but compare/contrast the cars a little and also see how a modded CTS-V would fare against a stock E55 AMG. Well, I might drool a little as well, but that's just something you will have to deal with.

My car is modded a little, the most significant being the addition of a supercharger. This is where many of the CTS-V owners are very interested--many would like to see how a blown CTS-V fares against the mighty E55. NOTE THAT I'M LOOKING FOR STOCK (or substantially stock) E55 ONLY!! A modded E55 is going to *****-slap me around, which we already know, and I'm not interested!!

Anyone interested in having some fun for a few hours some afternoon?

Let me know your thoughts

Thanks

CTS-Vs are awesome cars. That was on the top of my list before I bought my E55. The power and mod-ability of the LSx engines is amazing and you can end up with a TON of car for the $$$. Only hiccup was I couldn't slide the Caddy's styling past the wife. She HATES the way those things look. If I was still single, it woulda' been a modded CTS-V for sure, but I can't say I'm unhappy with the E55 at all either.

Not to derail the current conversation, but I think the S65 is probably the top of the 4dr food chain WRT performance

I am into all sorts of fun, and very curious to see just where the blown CTS's strengths are. I was just confused between 1/4 mile runs and racing around. I guess I figured the stress on the mechanics was the same. Actually, I was probably trying to make myself believe that, since I plan to do some 1/8th mile runs this weekend, and my wife is beating me up for planning to "trash" the E55 as I did the M3.
What does the wheel hop kit consist of? How do they try to "fix" it?
Let us know when you will be in the area and hope you hang out in these forums either way. Heck, we still got some guy that got rid of his E55 for a 'Vette!! (hehe, just messin)

LOL--I'm sorry. You are absolutely correct. I should have said, "SANE" 4-door food-chain. That car is just vulgar...

LOL--not at all. Just foolin' about as well.

I don't believe that "rolling" into the power band is nearly as egregious on the differential as mounting some uber sticky tires and side-stepping the clutch at 4k RPM. Granted, that is a silly example, but just trying to illustrate my point.

Wheel-hop is an annoying suspension characteristic. Basically, during hard launches (and the 1st-2nd gear shift), both back wheels move up and down so violently that they actually leave the ground. It's can be caused by many problems, including excessive unsprung weight, insufficient shock damping, or poor torsional axle control.

GM ATTEMPTED to correct this problem with a "modified" bushing, but that does NOT work that well, if at all. Some claim to notice big results, but most I have spoken with, including my own car, do NOT see any substantial gains. Further, I have YET to see a single person get rid of the annoying squeeking that becomes prevalent every few thousand miles that requires you to lube the stupid thing again and again...

There are several anti-wheel hop kits available, the most popular being the BMR anti-wheel hop kit. I believe that it works to a reasonable degree, but the CTS-V boards are fortunate enough to have a private-party build his own "solution" to the wheel-hop and the results have been very impressive, probably eliminating 95%+ of all wheel hop. I have ordered mine and I expect it to arrive shortly. I'm not 100% sure of exactly how THIS model works, but it's an intricate system. The BMR kit basically "ties" the left and right suspension "arms" together, helping eliminate any violent up and down motion.

Does that make any sense?

I definitely will keep you posted. Like I said, I'm in San Diego area often, so we definitely need to hook up, shoot the sh*t, and run the cars around.

Ummm, NO. If we are gauging by money, then the "best" isn't even a Benz. if we are saying it based on all around car, then not the S. Now, if they made a E65 / CLS65, then it would be it. I'll use any S65 in ANY race and that pretty much includes the straights. Wanna run??

Just jumping on here to see where this goes. Luna is trying to have some clean fun, something I respect.

Hmmm...wonder if there are any E55 AMG's that want to play in my part of the world, lol

Have to admit - the E55 was/is on my short list of cars to own

We're talking about acceleration. The S65 will work an E55 in that category. These big sedans handle well for their size, but that's like saying, "She's cute for a fat chick".

Work? Can you elaborate? I'm not talking smack, but I have an uncle with one and either he is too crappy a driver or My Stock E55 is just a bat out of hall?? We did rolling starts from about 10-15mph and up, and from about 80mph and up. We never got over 130mph, as HE backed off. We also did plenty of 0-100ish launches. I even let HIM take off and me react and I still jumped him. So, if you mean to top end, I can't comment. If you mean "work" me just due to numbers on the car, I'm not so sure. Do I respect the car and adore it? Heck yes. $200K is no slouch. Can he really "race" with me? that I dunno about.
Please tell me where I'm off here.
Again, I am not talking smack. My cousin has an SL65 and he and I are pretty close, although he gets me at 80-90mph and up. Other than that, we are pretty close. He has much more launch issues than I do. He can make much more smoke, too. But that has nothing to do with 1/4 miles (which he does take me at the end).

Luna, do you have a link with more info on the wheel hop solution that you're getting?

Do you have any feedback on Mallett's anti wheel hop kit? He claims to get rid of 80% of the hop IIRC.

Jangy, there were a few articles a while ago that were stating how traction limited the 65's were. The 600 turbos were running right there with them, since the 65's just couldn't get any traction down low. Your uncle's S65 either needs stickier tires or a better driver. Ever try switching cars and running them again?

We had an SL65 at one of our track days. My car ran a best of 12.20 (with a 1.77 60', so my traction was very good), bone stock and the SL65 was running in the mid-high 11s around 8mph faster trap speeds.

As far as your uncle's S65, it sounds like 1) your uncle is afraid of the car and he's not giving it all it's got or 2) there is something wrong with his car. With 100hp and over 200ft lbs more tq, the S65 is faster than a stock E55. It sounds like in your races with the 2 65s in your family, you are just the better driver (assuming your car is stock).

No smack talk here, I don't own an S65

Ya know...

JamE55 and I were supposed to get together this past weekend, but, as I spoke to him, it became clear that he just feared a blown CTS-V. So much so, as a matter of fact, he represented to me that he had wished that he had not purchased an E55 and told me that I was "the man" and that whatever I thought was best was fine by him! I know that most of you fear the CTS-V and all, but sheesh!!!

Please note that none of this is true at all and that we tried to hook up this past weekend, but a few things popped up for both of us. As such, since I got a stay of execution for a few more weeks, I thought I'd talk a little smack, as I'm going to get killed soon enough.

Monday afternoon/evening. Going to have a good time for a few days.

If I win the Viper at the MGM Grand, I'll immediately sell it and get an E55AMG upgraded to Stage III..that ought to satisfy my hunger for torque...
